This. Whenever we're transitioning out of defence and it gets played into him back to goal I'm confident. But his tendancy to dribble 20-25 yeards out in the width of the box leaves me having kittens.

He is more chaos personified than Gervinho and I can't believe it. 😆

Have to say his left foot is extremely consistent. Absolute quality with crosses and shots. You can see how confident he is he was even celebrating while taking the shot that was eventually disallowed. Starting to have a right foot too and that can only help diversify his game to be less predictable. His hold up play is actually pretty impressive.

Confident he will become even better in the second season once he build some muscles. The way we play now suits him a lot with a false 9 and 2 wing forwards that is more like the main strikers.

I complained a lot about his tracking back, his pressing, his will do impose himself in games. But he was on it last night. Tracked back, pressed like a mad man, wanted to be involved, scored that amazing goal as well...shame there was an offside in the build up. Hope this version is here to stay.

His first season at Arsenal he got 42 games, scored 8 goals and got 10 assists.
In the PL he played 31 games(started 22 of them - he was subbed off 11 times) and got 5 goals and 6 assists. Not that great...but if we think about our season, him being new to the team, the league...not gonna be to hard on him. Not good enough for the price tag, but the price is not on him. It's a decent first season, but I want him to get 10 & 10 next season in the league.

why not. after winning many journalists awards for flop o the season, the man goes and has a strong finish to the season, including probably his best performance in the FA Cup Final. Now imagine him getting the same kind of service that Aubameyang has been getting from deep, plus some midfield service from vd Week. Get in!

What made the FA Cup Final performance for me was the freer role he had to come inside when AMN was wide, rather than his staying out wide all the time. Effectively it gave us a 3 man midfield at any given time, and I can imagine the havoc he'd create running at defenders from midfield like we saw him do to VvD earlier in the season.

I hope if/when we switch back to a 4-3-3 he's given the same support and freedom. Earlier in the season Hector would offer no support on the overlap and he'd end up over there all on his own.

I think that was all partly to accommodate Ozil/No.10 though. Playing with 3 centre mids should allow us to retain roughly the same shape and patterns on the ball.

Although in his defence I'd add that in that 1 game he was used in his best position & role when the players made the decision. Whereas after that AW tried to get him to play higher up the field to win the ball back in an unco-ordinated high press, rather than doing so when protecting the Defence as DM/CMD.

Can't put someone like Coquelin in front of the defence where he's gonna be under pressure. Bloke couldn't pass if his life depended on it. He's exactly the sort of player who's best when he's pressing others which is how he broke through.

Anyway, Pepe didn't have a very good season, but it had a pretty decent ending. Plenty of potential upside next season if he can keep it up. It looks like Arteta has been drilling him hard on some basics. Pepé was a bit like the team at large by the time Emery left, no structure to fall back on, but it's one aspect where Arteta has improved Arsenal massively, both as a team and as individual players.
