I really don't get this season from Pepe, or rather, I don't get the perception. I can only think it's the managers' collective fault, and that maybe Arteta needed to get to know him and understand that he's not just a player in a position, he's one of a kind, and that's what makes him so exciting. I think he's an absolute baller, and I really don't understand why people have been so frustrated with him. I can understand some frustration, but the wailing lamentations have been absurd.

I wasn't even aware of the numbers he's put up, and they only reinforce my feelings on him. We cannot let the perception of him sink lower, Arteta has to make this guy a world star. I mean look at him, he's got it all. Dapper af.

Recent attacking stalwarts from Lille in their first season in the PL:
Eden Hazard: 13 goals, 24 assists // 62 appearances 4,521 minutes
Gervinho: 4 goals, 7 assists // 37 appearances 2,323 minutes
Nicolas Pépé: 8 goals, 9 assists // 39 appearances 2,525 minutes // three more games to go

To be honest thats a decent showing statistically in one of the worst campaigns we've had for decades. Better minutes per goal ratio than Hazard's debut season. Far too early to say he won't live up to the price.

Those aren't better stats, KB. It looks like about 120 mins per contribution for Hazard vs around 150 for Pepe.

Yeah they had a long UCL + Europa League run and also 2 domestic cup final runs to semi

Just had a look, he played 47 games got 14 assists across the PL and CL/EL in just over 3500 mins. So I guess it adds up when you add the domestic cups though 10 assists sounds a bit much, either way that's insane.

yeah. 61 if you don't include the community shield.

He should've been expected to get more goals on a team with guys like Torres and Ba up front.

I hate to keep harping on about this though but 17 goal contributions (and counting) really is not bad for a chaotic debut season.

5 goals and 6 assist in the league is not much to write home about as a forward to be honest. It's not useless but it's a bit Gervinhoesque. Considering some of the glaring holes in his game you'd expect a better output to motivate his inclusion. He was not bought as a project but as someone who was supposed to deliver.

I feel he's been improving steadily under Arteta though. Almost his entire league contribution (4 goals and 4 assists) has happened since Tet took over in December. The City game in particular made you feel more confident that he could work within the framework of the team if he's just given more time. Like most things at Arsenal he's a bit broken and odd-fitting, but we'll make it work.

He’s always going to be chaotic, his touch just isn’t consistent enough, but I don’t really care because the good bits are great.

He could be the biggest wildcard for next season.

He scared the fuck out of me when the ball randomly bounced off him while he was trying to play it out of our defence. He's so unpredictable I bet he don't know what he's gonna do with the ball half the time

Bring Back Kerrea Gilbert

Showed another side to him today and recently. He's up for the fight at the very least.

Needs to work on his weird balance or something.

Also did really well to control and move Bellerin’s ball into Auba. Not sure we get the same conclusion with another attacker. Quality of passes, crosses, shots. Top shelf.

He frustrated me a bit in this game, he's such an enigma. But he still brings qualities to the table that no-one else has. Hopefully arteta continues to polish him up
