Seriously what a fucking awful tweet. Pepe is plenty of the ball in all the positions you'd expect he's just struggling once he has it. He keeps getting in good positions in the box for shots but he's snatching at them, constantly getting the ball on the wing where you'd expect him to but he just can't get past PL full backs. He'll sort it out, its just a bit of a step up.

In the case that his form doesn't improve, I'm interested to see how long Emery sticks with him until he drops him.

As bad as it looks discarding his biggest investment, Emery can't really afford to wait around on anyone.

This offers the best overall balance. Think Kola and Laca are mature enough to make the change of position work, I don't like Auba getting too involved in the build up, and Laca won't offer a huge amount more than Kolasinac out wide. Pepe and Ceballos to play their way into the first 11 from there.

Instinctively the idea of Laca at number 10 put me off.

But the more I think about it, you're basically asking Kola to play a Ray Parlour role and Pepe/Saka/Tierney have the freedom to roam. Could work.

The real issue would be that the two are one dimensional going forward, compared to say Ceballos/Ozil and Pepe(debatable)/Saka. Which I don't think is the case, but even if it was - are we all that multidimensional of an attacking team, anyway? With Auba upfront, I don't even think we need to be. I don't see the two boys fucking up too many counter attacks, and when the other team gets bodies behind the ball, or parks the bus, we tend to get it to the wing and hope to open up space from there, anyway.

Lacazette is a weird one on this forum as opinions are split more on him than probably anyone else on. And though concerns over his creativity, and ability to dictate the tempo and rhythm of our attacks may end up being valid, who right now is guaranteed to offer more?

His final ball is wasteful, but he gets into decent positions by virtue of starting from so deep.

Wasteful as opposed to who? Admittedly, he does tend to force it sometimes. But that's not an innate technical deficiency in his game.

He's quick, powerful and well balanced when running full stride, which would only increase without the defensive responsibility. And we haven't really come up with a better plan for breaking through compact defences, so we might as well play to our strengths.

I don't think the Xhaka - Guendouzi CM pairing works even in a 3 CM midfield, let alone as a 2.
IMO the failure of the midfield begins with Xhaka as the deepest CM.
I'd rather play Luiz at the base of an inverted midfield 3.

Keown ripping into Pépé, and so have others. A nobody color commentator said something out of line during the Old Trafford game from what I could remember. This is just unfair, and I expect so much more from the Arsenal pundits. Its been just over two months. Our players don't get enough protection in the press.

Hardly ripping into him to be honest, Pepe did have a bad start and quality wise is really lacking in many areas other than dribbling. Part about how he is blocking Saka's path is stupid but other than that don't see much wrong with Keown's comments
