Ofcourse the 1 season this lifeline is thrown is the 1 season where the wheels totally came off for us. Even getting 5th is a tough ask at this point, but there's at least a fighting chance

I applaud Uefa for the semblance of justice.

That said I don’t think these punishments are harsh enough. It’s not enough to fine and ban these teams. The reason these teams get into trouble is because they flout the rules to quickly build up playing squads with lots of super quality players. After the bans and fines, they still have these squads. You haven’t reversed the issue that led to the fine. Football is an asset accumulation game. After the ban, the guilty team still finds itself occupying a higher energy level, where it has an expensive squad that can compete or be traded for new players. You need to impose a mechanism for reversing acquisitions by forcing these clubs to sell some of their assets until they reach the level they would have achieved without doping. That’s the only way to deter future malfeasance

That was 5 rounds ago Claude.

We could win everything that is left now and we'd still only get 71 points. That would have gotten you 5th place eight times or so in the last decade. It corresponds to 1.87 points per game.

The problem is that our average is 1.24 ppg for the entire season and 1.14 ppg under Arteta. We'd have to raise our game from basically 1 point per game to 3 points per game for the remainder of the season to even be in with the ghost of a chance. Do you honestly see that happening while we're defending with six men and play Auba on the wing?

The draws have been frustrating. But we are defensively quite solid now. I trust us not to just toss games away. Hopefully the week or so without distractions allowed Arteta to work on finding some attacking fluency.

I agree on the 5th place stats. I just don’t trust the teams above us to deliver. We have teams like Sheffield and an in-development Chelsea and Spurs. It’s a stretch, but still doable.

Reckon we can still get top 4 to be honest. Will be tough but with the fixtures we have remaining I wouldn't put it past us.

We've still conceded 6 in 7 games, and the main improvement is down to us packing the team so much in our own half. That it comes at the expense of other things should be no surprise.

Man City is really an embarassing club and shows why none of us are bothered when they win things. Spent so much over the years to win the UCL to only get banned. Liverpool spent so little in comparison and already won the UCL and now the PL. No history no fan base can only bring you so far.

We better capitalise on 5th.
