what’s great about that graphic is that it plays up the defensive side of the game. Too often, we default to describing teams in terms of their offensive posture. Actually, their defensive posture is at least as important if not more. How you defend impacts how quickly you can transition into your default offense and also defines how much the other team puts you under defensive pressure.
So for us now, when we lose the ball players are in 325, they need the explosiveness and coordination to recover the ball in 5 seconds, else fall back into 433 and drop back. If they can get the recovery early, we stay in the 325 and keep our opponent pinned back. We haven’t pushed this as hard as we could’ve because I think we just don’t have the fitness to pack hunt like raptors.
But from the graphic, you can see that Pool and City are a distinct animal, even if their offensive styles might look dissimilar, they are founded on similar defensive foundations.
