We'd have to raise our game from basically 1 point per game to 3 points per game for the remainder of the season to even be in with the ghost of a chance. It's not any other season though and the only number that matters is that we're 6 points behind Tottenham, who on current trajectory are going to finish on 56 points. It's easily doable.

It's not any other season, agreed, but that much is true for us too. Even winning a couple of games in a row is deeply unrealistic at the moment. Proportionally it's the same mountain to climb. We have 31 points. To get to 57 we'd have to almost double what we've earned across all season, and we'd have to do it in 13 games.

True. I mean I'm not saying I'm confident or anything and on top of the point you raised it's also just as likely that others pick up form before we do. I'm just saying it's on us to turn our form around a start picking up wins and honestly, it shouldn't be that difficult to turn these draws into wins, starting tomorrow. If we can, then I don't see that 6 point gap lasting particularly long.

I disagree with some of what Arteta's doing, but I don't think he's had enough games for 1,14 points per game under him to be significant. We may improve, we may not, and if we do 5th is definitely not unrealistic, albeit difficult.

Depends on what you think is significant. Seven league games is definitely not enough to make any sort of claim about him as a manager, but there are only 13 left of this entire season. In terms of how we might perform over those 13 games I think it's significant, and if we fail to get a convincing win tomorrow it'll be even more significant.

It will be more and more significant for each game that goes by, yeah. He's gotten Mari and a couple of weeks off for hopefully trying to implement his ideas more thoroughly. Not saying we'll make it, but I'll give it a couple more games before writing us off at the very least.

I mean would it have really reflected much better on our performances if we were able to hold on for another 10 mins against SU and Chelsea, or put away one of those chances against Burnley? Not really, but an extra 4-5 points from those games would have brought his PPG average up to 1.7 and more importantly just outside the top 4.

The margins are tiny, I mean all it would take is a purple patch from Auba for us to go on an above average run and these things are not exactly unprecedented.

Yeah it would. You can't just discount what happened in those games. There were reasons they could come back and they largely lie at Artetas feet. Hopefully he can learn from that.

Klaus is right though, we need to turn in some results now. Its been a tough job so far but that Burnley result was extremely disappointing and if we keep being disappointed like that then its going to be hard to turn things around.
