I don't really subscribe to this theory myself, mainly because there are so many examples of managers thriving without having any language skills whatsoever. Pochettino still can't say good ebening. I think it's Emery's mannerisms that don't gel with the squad, coupled with a general lack of individual improvement like that article is alluding to. I have no idea if there's even a source or if they're just making shit up, but the accusation rings true based on what we've seen on the field. It's something we've discussed previously. You see a noted difference in how they understand the basics between Guendouzi, who's been in the first team since he arrived, and the lads Freddie had in the U23 team. One can't position his body to receive the ball while the others do it effortlessly. And it's not because The Dooz lacks technical ability, because he doesn't. Apparently Ljungberg has done some specific coaching with him in the last two months to fix some of the holes, or so The Athletic bloke tweeted at least.
I think Emery is focused on systems and roles much more than he is on developing individual players, and managers like that rarely succeed in the long term unless they're absolutely top notch.

I don't disbelieve the story but I think the severity is exaggerated. Ray Parlour used to call Wenger inspector Clueso, for instance - it doesn't mean he lost their respect.
Wenger had the advantage of winning the double in his first full season though . . .
Yep, spot on. I'm certain that neither Parlour nor anyone else from the old guard respected Wenger at all when he arrived, but Wenger forced them to rethink by proving that his methods worked. He got Ian Wright to eat broccoli, he managed to get a donkey like Adams to play actual football. He found a role for Parlour who suddenly played his best football behind Henry. Emery is mild-mannered and intelligent, and those characteristics are always going to invite mockery in places like locker rooms unless you get results. I think it's bang out of order from the players, but his personality is not going to do him any favours when the results are absent.
