Yeah, I don't disagree with that I'm just disputing the proliferation of relatively meaningless stats that get thrown around to make a point.

Ultimately, the season is long and we'll have clearer proof-points by the end of it based on whether or not we qualify for the CL/get top four.

I don't get how it's meaningless when we conceded 51 goals last season though, and now we look worse. It's cool to expect heavy improvement but based on what evidence is it due?

But you're also basing your evidence of this season being worse on a small sample size. As I said, if it compromises our capacity to get top four/CL, we can draw better conclusions come the end of the season.

It's a small sample size backing up a much bigger sample size, but yeah, I get your point. I think people are inclined to be less forgiving though when it's a continuation of last season's trend.

Yeah, I get that. I guess mentally, I've given Emery two seasons to get it together and if we get back into the CL next season, then it's job done. And as aside, I still see him as an improvement on latter-day Wenger, which is is the smaller objective.

The defensive record is a shambles. You can’t build a great team upon a leaky defense. Because it creates anxiety everywhere- amongst players and fans. The Watford game was over at halftime but apparently the manager told the players 2-0 isn’t enough, reinforcing our frailties. 2-0 is almost ALWAYS enough for a top team. Especially when, unlike City/Pool, we do not have the luxury of creating chances at will.

i agree. i'm seeing all the wrong trends here, and they've now become red flags. the trends extend back past last season and to the other clubs he's managed as well. if we're still playing purgatory football by january, i'll be calling for him to be replaced in january

my worry is that his response to the current issues will be to double-down on the video sessions and usb sticks, and start to demotivate the squad with his intractability

We're starting Luiz and Sokratis at CB, have questionable FBs, and one of the worst holding mids in the league.

Don't let Auba and excitement about Pepe fool you, our team is mediocre.

Luiz has won the league and Sokratis was solid enough last season. Luiz's mistakes can be mitigated by making sure we are covered in midfield. Torreira was good enough starting last season, Doozy is quality for as long as he can be coached well.

I'm not saying we could push Pool / Citeh all the way, but we could at the very least match what Spurs did until the late part of last season.

Spurs did not challenge for the title last season.
They just about beat us to top 4 and that was by default.

Along with the 5-4 comment, I feel a bit like I've been conned. I was genuinely excited about what we might see.

There are still so many flaws in our squad. I am quite convinced that Emery is the cause of most of that though, rather than most players not being up to snuff.
