The above reads as if Arteta is some omniscient authority at the club who not only makes all the decisions but enacts them by himself. I'm really trying to avoid retreading old ground here but at the same time it's tedious seeing this lazy commentary persist.

We’re going to have to agree to disagree because I can’t be bothered to rehash this, but essentially I am of the view that it was Arteta’s decision to play him in the reserves / loan him out again, and then spend £50m on White. Edu is more of a facilitator. So ultimately this whole issue regarding Saliba not signing comes down to Arteta not trusting him until now (although even that remains to be seen).

I don’t think Arteta will have too many issues getting him to re-sign anyway as he has a track record of convincing players to sign contracts.

Just because he made good signings doesn’t mean you can’t criticise him for mistakes elsewhere. Funnily enough our best centre back was signed when Unai was around.

However, I think we can all agree that the biggest mistake made with regards to Saliba and the thing most likely to have impacted his relationship with the club was not being registered and playing in the reserves for 6 months. I think it takes a giant mental to leap to believe that (a) that was a scenario Arteta wanted and (b) that it's something he was entirely responsible for.

And we've had to ensure 6 years of those three failing to qualify for the Champions League. Perhaps their mutual faith in certain players was misplaced.

He is enterely responsible for. Or was he forced to register Kolasinac instead of Saliba? The man in charge is the one who is accountable, those things go hand to hand

The plan was clearly to send him out on loan but they failed to sort out a deal. If you think that's entirely on Arteta then I don't know what to say.

And that argument has never ever make sense because even if he failed to go on loan, register him and give him some opportunities as opposed to giving minutes to stupid players who has no place to play for us

As long as the conspiracy theory isn't right, and Saliba is happy here, doesn't have some festering feeling of injustice at his treatment and signs a new contract then it doesn't matter to me in the sligthest. Gabriel and White were both excellent last season, Saliba, at 20nyears of age, got 40 games on loan, now we get them all together to pick from this season. Happy days.

Man you were the one that brought back the topic by stating that Saliba's body language worried you. But I agree with you, if he renews everything will be fine. In the meantime, we can keep discussing about the stupid mistakes that were made in handling him

Quincy and Clrnc have made the point. There was no gun aiming at Arteta that forced him to send Saliba to the reserves. He decided that Kolasinac and at least one other useless player were more important.

P.S.: are we going to keep using the "then I dont know what to say"? Hahahahahha.

The club fucked up the situation in 20/21, made a decision last year that worked out well for the player, and if he signs on, then, in isolation, it won't matter.

It is concerning from a wider perspective though, because it suggests the management are capable of fucking up again in the future, with no guarantees that things fortunately work out.

Definitely handled poorly and I do think Arteta played his part, particularly since we were forcing out a couple of the guys who we registered ahead of him by the winter. You've got to show some pragmatism and prioritise keeping the £30m potential star happy over guys you're going to end up paying to leave just months later. Hopefully he's learnt from it though and fortunately it looks like no irreversible harm done.

By all accounts, Saliba's return to St. Etienne for a second loan spell fell apart due to paperwork not being completed in time. Unless Mikel Arteta was filing the paperwork himself, then it was someone else's fault, and according to reports both clubs blamed each other. So the truth is, we don't know who exactly fucked up, but lazy thinkers who are completely devoid of critical thinking need a scapegoat, and the lazy option is just blame the manager.

The 6 months that followed where Saliba wasn't registered. It's not difficult to understand why a player who wasn't supposed to be at the club wasn't registered.

Spot on Shady. Hopefully this clown dont last much more time so his subsequent fuck ups are suffered by his next club (some club in the Spanish 3rd league, probably)
