He’s done everything right in preseason so far, things will be a lot different in the PL but he looks well placed to be able to handle it.

Dude is the Thierry of CBs, so silky for someone so big, strong, fast. He's been boss since day 1 and is just now being given the chance to show it here.

Honestly don't see much difference between his play now compared to after his first loan spell. The real difference I can see is between how good he was compared to Mustafi/Chambers/Holding/Mari/Luiz all of whom we played instead since then.

He is showing why we should have spent 50m on a CM last season instead. Levels above everybody, even our best CB Gabriel.

He’s progressed massively in the last 12 months. Plays with more maturity now and is physically stronger

Maybe in your opinion Dules. For me it's the complete opposite. I saw a maturity in his game from the time we were first interested in him. Looked advanced well beyond his age. Bith physically and mentally.

Go back and watch his old videos even durung his first loan spell at St Ettiene and tell me he wasn't physically imposing even as an 18/19 year old. And if we are talking about his maturity in knowing to stay on his feet, not being rash in the tackle etc, if you watch his touch comps from before we even signed him, you'll hardly see a single last ditch slide tackle in any of them. That's a sign of maturity and reading of the game when you're able to snuff out danger early on without having to dive in or over commit.

Mind you, that same sentiment is why I had doubts over Gabriel originally as he seemed a bit too rash for my liking back then.

I think he's always been very mature and physically powerful for his age. He now has that advantage over just about anyone. Very impressive guy who looks every bit the top prospect we signed. I'm just crossing my fingers that we get him to sign on for the long term, because that would have made the last couple of years worth it.

In previous preseason run-outs he looked shaky and a bit awkward to me - with all the talent in the world it has to be said.

This summer he's only been caught out once that I've noticed (against Everton) and it didn't phase him in the slightest. Otherwise, he's been almost perfect in everything he does. Takes the breath away at times. A global superstar in the making. I both hope that he keeps his head on straight and that we manage to not fuck up his renewal. For whatever reason, I'm always nervous to get my hopes up about young CBs at Arsenal (well, I'm pretty sure I know the reasons).

he had enough about him to be developed in-house, certainly when he came in and clowns like Luiz and mustafi were still at the club. would've freed up money to be spent elsewhere. if he tears it up for us this season, he has all the leverage in the world for his next contract, and there will be elite clubs lining up for him.

A top class performance. I'm not sure I can think of any defenders I've seen like this at 21? I'm not sure even Rio Ferdinand was playing with this level of composure, intelligence and maturity at West Ham? He was incredible at Leeds, but he moved there at 22. Anyway, it's off the charts impressive.

I really hope I'm putting 2 and 2 together and getting 5, but the kid's body language worries me a bit. I watched him during the cup presentstion yesterday and he was stood a little away from the group, not smiling or talking, he didn't really look like he wanted to be there. We know he's super calm and laidback anyway, so I'm hoping it's just that he hasn't fully settled in the group yet and is still working with broken english. We've seen him leading the groups he's previously been part of it, hopefully that's to come, but I'm a little worried.

I want this new contract announced asap.

No one to blame except Arteta for that. Hopefully he rectifies the situation and manages to convince Saliba to sign.

Yup two years, also a massive bonus he will become a homegrown player meaning he won’t take up any of our foreign player quota.

The above reads as if Arteta is some omniscient authority at the club who not only makes all the decisions but enacts them by himself. I'm really trying to avoid retreading old ground here but at the same time it's tedious seeing this lazy commentary persist.
