Yup, even if he extends by one year we have to protect the value of our player. Too many players these days running down their contract and we know better than most what is like to get stung.
We should have done this last summer though, told him he would need to extend his contract for a year if he wanted to join Marseille on loan. He now comes back after a very successful loan and no doubt other clubs are eyeing him up. So he has the power now and if his advisers are worth what he's paying them they'll be telling him to hold off signing any extension.
