Reports from Arteta and the player are in contradiction right now. Gonna be a big job to turn the kid around. Let's see if Arteta can pull it off, he does seem to be pretty convincing even with others he hasn't treated brilliantly. We'll see if Saliba signs a new deal or not by September.

Saliba's comments are all over the place to be fair, I think the kid just very uncertain about what his place here will be. His experience at the club so far gives him no real reason to be optimistic. Most likely we'll have to take a leap of faith that he will eventually sign once he see's that he's getting a fair shot.

reports we'll offer him an improved contract. that's probably the most effective way to show that he's wanted and prevent him walking out the door on the cheap. going by his early interviews he was super excited to join us, and turned down the scum to do so. he's grown as a player, and if he had been with us the last 2 years, I think discussions of an improved contract would be happening about now anyway

I'm not sure that leap of faith is good business. And I doubt he'd be given the shot he feels he deserves.

Also supposedly Arteta is wanting to buy more CBs, why would Saliba commit in that case, considering how Arteta has already left him in the reserves.

I think the links to more CBs are probably because this is up in the air. Doesn't seem to be anything concrete yet, makes sense for us to be feeling out our options in case Saliba doesn't extend.

Yeah that's most likely the case, and if Arteta is seriously considering selling Gabriel a CB would be needed.

Sampaoli is reportedly very sad at losing Saliba. He says Kamara is replaceable, but he will never find a CB as good as Saliba again.

If we want to sell him we can definitely fleece them 60-70m

and as for this, I think it's a timely reminder that things are rarely as bad, or as great, as they may seem. It's like AAStyle looked into the future and got it completely backwards. And that's not me being clever after the fact - two posts under this one, I said this:

Saliba coming back here with a point to prove to Arteta is no bad thing imo. And assuming Saliba sticks around, Rob Holding is one spot further away from the first team, which is a good thing.

The rumours about another CB seem to be around a backup left sided CB from what I've read. I think Saliba has generally played on the right. We will get rid of Mari, which leaves a bit of a void for Gabriel's backup (which has existed for a while now). Holding is also more right sided.

Saliba probably has the talent and speed to play well there - being right footed doesn't stop you - see Koscielny and many others.

well, he's confirmed he's coming back next season. no more bs, let's hope he shows what he's capable of now. we have some real quality depth at centre half, and we can push white to right back in an injury pinch as well. he was decent there as a stop gap last season

Short of going on strike he was always likely to come back. I wasn't really worried. Like my man Burns used to say, he has a contract with us. Let's hope he provides ample competition for our established center backs. If he can displace one or the other, that would imply a step up for us, which is a good thing.

I am really curious to see him play to see what the hype is really all about.

Also, Rob Holding’s days are numbered if he has been demoted to 4th choice CB now.

Looking forward to seeing him play. Hopefully, we can start to move on from the melodrama of three last three years.

We wont be able to move on until he signs a new deal. Which could be as late as next summer.
