First choice is a bold claim to make when he has played a total of two hours of football for them and only started one game. I suspect even Deschamps isn't sure where he fits in just yet.

He can be good, have dominated an average league, and still have question marks over how well and/or quickly he will adapt here.

To be honest, I'm fed up reading about him. Arteta and his handling of Saliba since they've both joined has been a joke, but he seems to have drama written all over him and he hasn't kicked a ball for us yet.

This guy is mostly hype, and Arsenal is a big reason why he's gotten so much attention. He has everything to prove.

And to think that there is people who believed that it was correct to waste 6 months of his life putting him in the reserves. "Progress"

Well the only drama with him is stemming from how we handled his career since paying 30m and moving him from Saint Etienne to our reserves to Nice then Marseille within 30 months. Alongside Pepe and Xhaka he's one of the most obvious cases where Arteta's personal preferences with specific players are affecting us adversely

Not sure that Arteta consciously thought "I'm just gonna fuck Willy off into the reserves for six months", wasn't it more that Arsenal just didn't get around to sorting him a loan deal out before the window closed?

Those who don't think Arsenal have done anything wrong in their handling of Saliba by extension think there wasn't anything wrong about that.

As RTC said, it was an oversight rather than anything intentional. Pretty sure everyone, including Arteta think playing him in the reserves for half a season was a fuck-up.

Because once he realised this was the situation (which I'm sure he was fully aware of anyway) he should have a contingency in place to give him playing time not just stick him in the reserves and play Mustafi and Kolasinac ahead of him at CB.

Unless Arteta genuinely thought Mustafi and Kola are better CB's, wouldn't surprise me as it did take Arteta a while to realise Willian wasn't up to it before giving the likes of ESR and Marty a go.

If Arteta didn't think Saliba was ready, and he has explained why he didn't, I'm good with that. No point in throwing a 19 year old centre back (as he was at the time) in at the deep end and risk destroying him.

Someone who was in team of the year and won young defender of the year award, costs 30m etc and we beat a host of club to his signature but we think he is less ready than playing a rusty Kolasinac out of position at CB?

there's seriously no arguments for it. He was completely banished in reserves. It was not about sorting out loan, we intentionally registered others shitsters ahead of him and he didn't even make our bench in carabao against nonsense teams.

I think it's pretty self-evident that no one wanted Saliba condemned to the reserves.

If you think Arteta did however, then I can see why you dislike him. I just don't think it's grounded in fact.

You think the way we handled him, not letting him play in a cup final, not registering him for six months and having him rot in the reserves, sending him to four different clubs in 30 months, all this was better than risking "destroying" a 20 year old who the club valued at 30m when he had just turned 18?
