Like I said it had nothing to do with experience or quality, he has a beef with Saliba.

People keep saying last season Saliba wasn't ready etc and was unfit. Yeah right we threw in Gabriel who only had half a training session after his quarantine straight into the first match when Saliba had the entire pre season with us

and you're missing the thrust of the argument - noone has called saliba a sure thing. it's just the latest and most noticeable example of bungling by the people in charge, at a time where people are already viewing them with an air of mistrust

We do it all the time = COVID is nothing new except we now choose to retain the shit whilst not changing fuck all, which would seem an even dafter thing to do.

Only 28 year old Mari can learn on the job at Arsenal, and the manager, and the director of football, and whatever the hell Vinais role is.
A fact that I absolutely love, Mari has played 4 more first league lvl games then Saliba. All bar 14 of them in shit leagues.

funny thing is ever since saliba was signed we've only employed one CB who wasn't learning on the job. so that "not ready" bullshit just doesn't sit well with me.

The excuses people will come up with for Arteta. Sometimes you just need to look and sound the part for some. 5 years down the line we'll look back at this period like Spurs do with Sherwoord / Villas Boas etc.

I hate that this situation exists and I don't really understand it. I guess it all makes sense if Arteta is a total dickhead who would prefer to cut of his nose to spite his face, but it just seems too ridiculous to be true.

I mean, it also makes sense if Saliba is the one driving the whole thing, whether out of spite or simply preference, which I don't think is any more far-fetched considering the power players and agents have these days.

The thing about Saliba is that he turned down some really big clubs to sign for us because he's been a fan since childhood. I don't think the issue stems from him not wanting to play for us.

Was he a fan of Arsenal FC, or was he a fan of (earlier) Wenger's Arsenal? The difference is actually getting easier to see.

What ever the circumstances are now it's 100% it's a situation of Arteta's making. What we don't know is if Arteta is just stubborn or if he has the players best interests at heart, but I reckon he just doesn't like him and the feeling is probably mutual.

This is one of the bigger red flags for me when it comes to Arteta, probably second just behind not signing a CM and extending Xhaka.

Saliba’s one more major weakness - aerial strength - seems to have been ironed out now. He’s dominant in duels and set pieces now like his height and size suggests he should be. A complete CB. He’s got the lot and under a reasonable manager, he would start for us, no doubt.

To be clear, I'm not suggesting Saliba is purposefully not playing for us. I'm saying the situation makes very little sense and Arteta is a lunatic of the worst kind if he's doing this out of some kind of stubbornness or spite. There just have to be other reasons.
