100% this. People are way too quick to want to discard talented youngsters just because they aren't perfect. See it with basically every young player at the moment who isn't Saka.

There are a lot of folks who are worried about Saka now because he isn’t getting goals and assists. They think his productivity is down. I thought he looked great on Sunday, especially as he was learning a new role.

He never made any mistake though. If anything he has proved that we have made a mistake by underestimating his fitness, match sharpness and ability.

He's not made any mistakes yet. He's also not played for us yet. I think Qwiss and Claude are suggesting we give him time when he does eventually get his chance.

I think Clrnc is suggesting that some of us didn't even want him to go on loan and would've given him time even if he were making mistakes here.

And I'd suggest that would never be the case in a million years. He'd just become another foil for taking shots at the club and Arteta, especially with the price tag.

Good thing then you know better what I'd be doing than I do myself.

I'm not taking shots at the club I'm taking shots at the inept head coach we have. The club has done little wrong except not sacking him already. I don't need any foil to state that any clearer than now.

Eh, it's just a grass-is-greener mentality coupled with short-term thinking. Fielding loads of youth in the PL is a stupid idea and it has little to do with results. The best reason to do it is to sell them for a profit, but we are trying to build a sustainable squad here, not flip talent. It's a big club mentality.

Saliba is better than Luiz, but he also has a career ahead of him while Luiz is expendable. This is the difference between strategy and tactics. Arteta's main failure is in getting the players they've identified as the first team squad to produce the results we need to support the medium-term strategy. As the quality rises each season, those results will shift as well. That includes the purposeful integration of players like Saliba.

Do you think that Arteta agrees with you that Saliba is better than one of our starting CBs but chose not to give him any minutes at all in order to protect him? I think it's much more plausible that Arteta uses the defenders he thinks are better.

I think he is balancing priorities and may very well see that Saliba is the more talented defender, yes. I'm not in his head and even if I were, I don't think he's the only person making these decisions.

I feel like the Saliba story is most easily explained by what actually happened. The kid was cooped up in his apartment for almost a year after an injury due to COVID. And a team chasing top 4 with no pre-season didn’t see space for him at the time.

It would be a shock for him to not return after the season he’s had. He clearly has a higher ceiling than Holding and should pass the Englishman within a few seasons

It has already been a shock for him to be loaned out after the 2 seasons he has had hence his outburst on social media.

I think he has once again clearly shown that he is more than good enough to play for us. Him or Mavropanos + Mari or Gabriel is a very good quartet

We can really only integrate one of him and Mav this season. I don’t think either of them are homegrown under Uefa rules which is a challenge. Why we need to be holding onto Rob for the time being.

I think Saliba counts as HG which is why we signed him first

He doesn’t qualify.
When you submit for Champions / Europa League, there is an A-list which requires that the player has had 3 developmental years at Arsenal or in England. In a squad of 25, you ideally have 8 such players, 4 of whom must’ve been trained by Arsenal. The max non-homegrown is 17. This list is submitted in September and January.

So Saliba qualifies either as one of the 17 non-homegrown players or he can be put on the B-list which requires that you need to have been trained 2 years by the club and under 21. This list is submitted 24hrs before every game.
