So hes admitted he wasn't fit played in preseason was told he wasnt ready (has a few things to work on first). He started moaning club agreed a loan, him or his agent managed to stuff that up somwhow we agreed it. After that he just moans really, because thats how you impress a new manager.

Saliba, Douzi, AMN, Balogun. You can dismiss them all as whatever pejorative you feel like assigning to them but its not something we've seen happen so frequently at Arsenal before with young players.

You get these negative clicks in clubs and they just constantly put the staff, coach and other players down.If they're that click then the sooner they go the better. Everything is negative they always blame someone else. They're like biggus was near the end of the wenger era when he was super negative. We all ahve a friend who have that endlessly negative attitude they're usualy the one that goes nowhere in life. As they'd rather moan than get on with stuff.

Well he had admitted he was pissed when they told him he wasn't ready after 2 preseason games. If he was happy to knuckle down to get in the team why would he be bitching about that, and why would he be taking digs at the club on twitter? His expectations we clearly very high.

I mean he had been left outside both squads at that point. I mostly think footballers should shut the fuck up and keep their head down but we did him dirty, and any analysis has to begin in that end.

It's not like he went to the press either, he vented a bit on a friend's instagram. Not the smartest thing to do these days when people comb through every single thing that footballers write, but he could have rocked the boat a lot more this season if he wanted to, and a lot of people would have agreed with him. He's been as respectful as Arteta has any right to expect.

I'll openly admit that Saliba said he was mad because he was judged to be 'not ready'. Instead of getting mad, he should just get ready.

You can get ready / be ready and complain about not being picked for squads at the same time.

Arteta’s job is to manage the squad, he clearly managed the Saliba situation poorly. Moving forward he needs to make a decision on him rather than leave him in no mans land.

Anyway he didn’t complain / speak to media until he had left the club, wouldn’t be surprised if he left permanently in the summer. At least Luiz is around.

Let's break down the Saliba situation. Where do we think things went wrong and why

Saliba came back out of shape. We had 3 weeks between seasons due to Covid-19. There was barely enough time to get him into shape before the season began
The team planned to get him out on loan to St Etienne
The loan flopped, and the team (not expecting this) failed to register him for local competition

I suspect 2 things went wrong here. First, we got expectations misaligned with Saliba. He was not going to be ready for the season with us given our ambitions and his fitness. Second, we failed to get an agreement across the line with St Etienne for whatever reason and didn't make contingencies. To me that feels like a bit of Arteta and a bit of Edu. But it's not a simple Arteta issue.

The other factor is squad size and the fact that it was so bloated, particularly in his position. If we managed to offload these guys in the summer there probably wouldn't have been a problem.

Arteta should have shown some flexibility and given our £30m asset mins ahead of Mustafi who was going to leave on a free in 3 months. If Saliba had gotten those 9 games, he'd have probably been more accepting of the situation (and maybe worked a little harder in training?).

Who knows, hopefully they start afresh in the summer.

When you sign a highly rated 19 year old for 35 million quid you obviously make certain promises. I'll bet everything in my bank account that we didn't tell him he could come here and play with our U23 team as part of trying to convince him to choose us over other European clubs.

Very true, and Edu was around when we first signed him. Saliba also mentioned he regrets not joining us immediately and how new management can change things quickly in football.

Ultimately this is on Arteta / Edu to rectify.

Yeah, that's the most reasonable take on this situation. Agree with Goon too.

There's no reason in hell he was behind Mustafi in any universe. Even Sokratis made one Carabao cup bench ahead of Saliba

I didn't say he was right. I'd have picked him, but once he said he wasn't going to, he should've been out on good loan. That's not Arteta's job.

I'm not that fussed about him playing odd minutes in the EL group stages, I'd rather he play in the first team somewhere else, anyway.

They aren't a clique. They are separate player who all just happen to be young.
