Claudius not necessarily to replace Havertz, just along the front line. Since we are in Martinelli thread I'm looking more at him. Havertz is okay. Close to elite, but on a horsey spectrum, feels closer to workhorse than thoroughbred.

Basically, we need that provider of magic consistently in the forward line. One that complements or maybe can even surpass Saka, be it on the wings or in the center forward position.

lorddulaarsenal Never heard of him but judging by that face, he looks like a massive dickhead. Would fit right in amongst Garnacho and Antony at United.

Anyone worried about him yet? Haven't caught any pre season match till yesterday but I see the same problems. Head down player, a lot of blind runs into alley and somewhat not on the same wavelength as others.

Still always very busy and hardworking but this season we really need more polished output from him.

If we could merge Trossard and Martinelli into a single player, we'd be set but we can't so we need to look to the market for that player.

Martinelli is a big worry for me, he had a great season 2 back but then a really bad season last one. We are still heavily betting that he will come good which I think is a massive risk for us and one of the areas from an attacking sense I have concern. We don't really know what kind of player martinelli is and it might be that he doesn't ever show that first season quality. We should be trying to mitigate that through recruitment in my view.

awooga83 Martinelli is the only player of his kind we have right now. At the very least, I’d like him as a fresh face at 70 minutes or in alternate games. We have to show teams different faces or risk being found out. I prefer Trossard as main left winger, but Nelli has a role.

Let's judge the guy during the season. He made a number of wrong moves yesterday, looks like he night be second guessing himself at times or low on confiidence. He still could have left the pitch with an assist from Odegaard's shot. It's just preseason. I'm not too concerned with him, he'll come good.

Big Willie He's still the same guy that was playing last season. I think that's the point.

I am also hoping he's more effective in his game.

Trossard is not a left winger for me. We lose too much pace with him out wide

It's all going a bit Theo Walcott for Gabi Martinelli.

Yeah I've not watched any of the pre season myself the concerns about martinelli for me are based on watching him last season and the fact he's just not been effective as an attacking threat. That's what we need something on the left that makes the opposition concerned enough that they have to take some focus off our right and Saka. Otherwise it's too easy to try set up against us. That also goes for needing a consistent goal scorer who can give us reliable numbers to help our attacking game as well particularly in those matches where it isn't really working and you might only get one good moment.

Still convinced this is more a function of the way we play than of Martinelli's talent, but I do think his confidence has suffered a bit as well. He's the one winning the corners that Rice has been whipping in to great effect.

Burnwinter but to me that's been the problem his end of product is run down the wing can't get passed and get squeezed out or blocked. That's not enough in my view for that position and he needs to improve that or we have to find something different.

I think way too much is being made of the left sided position. If Martinelli performs poorly, Trossard is waiting to take advantage and vice versa.

To put it in context, Trossard's 17 goals in all competitions is better than every left winger we've ever had as far as my lifetime goes back aside from one Pires campaign.

Similarly, Martinelli's 15 league goals two season back is the best league output of any left winger we've ever had since I started following.

Mirth True, but Walcott was nevertheless a very valuable player to have. Especially in big games.

                Alexis Sanchez.

Out of Trossard 17 goals, only 12 goals are as a LW.

Out of the 12 goals, only 6 goals came when he started the game. The rest are subs.

He's an unbelievably productive super sub.
