Martinelli is so well suited to that role currently, particularly with the players around him, that you can't really see him agitating to play centrally at least for a while.
That's usually been the problem when we've shunted wannabe strikers to the flanks for their development.
I guess further to that if we're likely to be working with a playmaking centre forward, some kind of false 9 or even a rotation of players through that central role, it may not carry quite the same obsession and prestige. For instance if Smith-Rowe is regularly deputising for Lacazette there in future.
If you look at City and Liverpool, correct me if I'm wrong (I usually am) but it seems many of their outfield players have slotted into some variant of false 9 over time.
Things would be different if we signed a more physical central player like Vlahovic. However Vlahovic based on what I've seen doesn't have quite the range of goalscoring attributes to produce huge numbers in the Premier League, so he might be a more modest focal point and threat for us if he were signed (which is not very likely).
