I like him, but think that the best way to aid his development as a striker is to consider loaning him out for the next couple of seasons. He will need game time and mistakes and poor form will always accompany an extended run in the first team. Better for that to happen in a more forgiving environment. Also for a developing striker, I think the confidence gained from scoring goals in a weaker league can outweigh the benefits of exposure to first team football in the PL.
Makes sense if we are looking to develop him in a traditional CF role, but I suspect that is not going to be the case.
IMO Arteta would prefer a hybrid CF role that provides work rate, pressing, mobility, able to switch positions across the front4 in a flexible/fluid playing style = less of a positional specialist but still predominantly a goal scorer/finisher.
IMO both PEA and Laca are limiting to the team flexibility in much the same manner as Xhaka is in midfield, or Ozil was as CAM, in that they need to play in a specific position/role. Â
Basically I think Arteta wants a player at CF with the same effectiveness regardless of positions as seen with both Saka and ESR, and we'd play similar to the recent trend by MC of not having a dedicated CF role in open play, let alone using a recognised CF.
Perhaps the sort of versatility/effectiveness seen from Rashford, but better because it would be in a system/style to use it?
