I think it'll be good for him to continue as a winger/striker hybrid until he establishes himself more firmly in the team.

He's the about the same height as the likes of Vardy, Rashford, Martial, Antonio, Watkins, Firmino, Zaha, Wilson, Werner
and taller than the likes of Salah, Mane, Sterling, Silva, Jesus, Aguero, Ings, Adams, Walcott, Balogun
but shorter than the likes of DC-L, TA, Kane, Son, Benteke, Bamford, Jiminez, Giroud.

Elsewhere he's taller than the likes of Mbappe, Martinez, Neymar.

Also perhaps another indication Balogun is off?

so basically he's of a similar height to those starting for clubs positioned where we want to be and shorter than those at the clubs we don't want to be like.

I like him, but think that the best way to aid his development as a striker is to consider loaning him out for the next couple of seasons. He will need game time and mistakes and poor form will always accompany an extended run in the first team. Better for that to happen in a more forgiving environment. Also for a developing striker, I think the confidence gained from scoring goals in a weaker league can outweigh the benefits of exposure to first team football in the PL.

Out of all the strikers we've had in the last two decades only the poorest ones, like Bendtner and Adebayor and Giroud, were any good in the air. The rest have been average. Well overrated ability.

When it comes to Martinelli as a striker I think his touch is a bigger issue than his height. I'm not sure he'll get the same room to dribble as he does out wide.

He doesn't really need to dribble in tight spaces though, what you want is him being on the end of passes that set Auba through yesterday. He can also drift wide whenever he wants to look for a bit of extra space.

But it's one of those things you'll only find out when you see it. He either has a sense for the position or he doesn't.

Yep, finding space is absolutely the most important thing for a striker. We've already seen Martinelli has that, the only question is whether he's better at finding it from wide positions or at CF. I don't think it matter much anyway, players like Mane, Salah, Sterling, etc have all been as important as the CF when it comes to being forwards so Marti could end up doing it from wide either. Whatever he's a natural goal scorer so it makes sense he's been working on that in training.

I don't think Auba has a particularly brilliant first touch either.

As said, positioning and movement, along with having enough pace and good finishing ability is more important for a striker.

Obviously you can't be a complete donkey with your first touch. I don't think it's going to be a problem for Martinelli though.

Developing good enough movement and positioning to be able to overcome being marked by 2-3 defenders at all times is going to be the bigger challenge. Incidentally, that is also something Auba is often struggling with when he's playing as a CF.

He scored a header last month in saudi aswell.

Hes usually on the outside of the area bit when he got the oppertunity he actually had a decent header.

Headers are 15-20% of all goals. If you are a good all-rounder like Cristiano or Lewandowski, being able to score with your head can add a significant number to your end of season tally. If you’re just shit like Bendtner and Giroud, what’s the point. You’re in the wrong place anyway or not fast enough to get to the ball.

Henry scored three or four headers out of 227 goals in an Arsenal decade and all of them were balls that he could just as easily have poked in with a knee instead. I think Auba has scored three too in his time here. van Persie basically never scored with his head. I'm sure Bergkamp nodded in one or two but any immediate examples escape me. It's a non-issue. If you don't have a 6 ft 4 striker then just don't aim for his head. Simple.

Those crafty Italians. Always ahead of the curve when it comes to things like this. Makes you wonder why it never happens in England despite the huge amount of foreign-born talent that gets filtered through Premier League academies.
