Sorry for your loss Burnwinter and sincere condolences to the family of Jose Reyes. Life is indeed fleeting, a privilege to be grateful for. Puts sport in perspective.

Such sad news.

Whats that?
Sadly enough I didn't watch him much at Arsenal but I did watch him during a Real Madrid match. Real Madrid were 0-1 down on the final day of the season and they needed a win to claim the title. They put Reyes on, and he scored two in the 3-1 win.

He was set to join Emery as a coach this summer.
Reyes goal against Middlesborough

Kid was brilliant. He was principal harpist in about a dozen Perth ensembles, a brilliant singer and composer, and his career as a doctor was developing fast. One of the most courageous people I ever met—he was always doing stuff like posting videos of him jumping off moving horses and that kind of thing.
Anyway, bit of a long and personal reflection on another death much too young. No one should be dead before their time, and I'm sorry that Reyes has gone. People will remember him for his electric pace and his instant threatening running when he appeared at Arsenal from Spain. God we could use a player like him now.
sorry to hear that burnsy

I remember that game clearly, Capello was manager.

I don’t think this would have occurred.

Very sad, sorry to hear.
I dedicate a lot of time to activism for safety-oriented street design and such. The way cars/motorbikes and roads are designed gives people a false sense of security when speeding, even though they are in fact doing a very dangerous thing. This false perception of being in control causes an absurdly high amount of tragic deaths and injuries every year.

Some people. Dear god. He's leaving behind 3 young children and they think he deserved it because he was speeding or isn't worthy of people's sadness because he dived a bit at football. Only online.
Edit - you're right, a bit too heartbreaking. For the record: It was a video of Reyes returning home and greeting his kids last year after spending 2 months playing football in China. Shame the United fans didn't watch it before they posted.
Why post that vid man?

Didn't know that. Would have been nice to see him around the club again.

I saw the vid, it was heartbreaking and put things into perspective. In the same instagram account of his wife, they just celebrated their 8th year anniversary 5 days ago.
Fabregas was the closest to him back in those days
damn i haven't been paying any attention to football news until i went to look at the CL score and find out this shit. RIP Jose
and fuck fungus, yanited and their fans.
What was the vid?
Too heartbreaking.
Here is a tribute vid instead
Forgotten how good a finisher he is. Most of his goals were top class.
He was on Spanish studio for most of our europa league games and he kept mentioning how much he loves Arsenal and wished us all the best
Awful news, such a young age to go and leaves behind a young family.
I still remember when he signed and the buzz around the club. I remember we were neck and neck with Man Utd at that point so things were really tight and tense. I think his signing gave the club and the fans a massive lift. It felt like we signed one of the next big superstars but unfortunately didn't quite work out like that.
'A humble guy who always had a smile on his face, great footballer and great person. I could not wake up today in a worse way. I will never forget when you and your family welcomed me at your home in my first Christmas in England when I was alone and was 16 years old.
'I will never forget our tennis football matches in the gym before and after workouts. Our connection in the field was also special, since it was always easy to find yourself between the lines so you could make the difference.
'I always say that you have been one of the greatest talents in football and I know that I am not wrong. 2 days ago I was talking about you in an interview, it might be a sign, who knows, to remember you, my great friend.
'I will never forget you, we will never forget you. Always in our hearts. Rest in peace Jose Antonio Reyes. Love you very much. Cesc'
I don't know if this the right time to put this up but reading some tweets just now that he may have been driving 120-150mph when he crashed and others died in the crash as well. Definitely puts a different light on this tragedy if true.

Wondering that too.

What was so heart breaking about it that it needed to be taken down?
It was nothing shocking. It was Reyes embracing his two daughters after being away for a couple of months and the heartbreaking part is that those two those little girls will now be forever without their father.

Ah ok. Just seen the video. Sad but seeing him with his kids and the relationship they had did make me smile. So sad they won't have their dad around anymore.
wait so it wasn't a one car accident?
It was, he hasn't drove his car for months and god knows why he suddenly drove and at that apparent speed.
1 of his cousin was killed, the other hospitalised.
Just saw this, brilliant gesture from Madrid.
Well done. If they aren’t already, Arsenal and Sevilla should also try to get involved with taking care of his family in my opinion.
Why should Arsenal and Sevilla do that?
It would be a nice gesture of support from within the footballing community?
If the two clubs want to contribute money to Reyes' family, then I would argue there are much more worthy causes, but it's their money and they can do what they like. And by that same logic; no one can say they should look after the family or have a responsbility to do so.
Jose Antonio Reyes was a very rich man when he died. In that sense, his family will be more alright that 98% of the population of planet earth.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure his kids won't starve any time soon. They lost a dad, not a breadwinner.
I think having his son involved in sports (a youth set up) will help him with his loss. It's a fitting gesture, far better than donating money to the family who clearly wouldn't need it.
I didn’t ask for anyone to donate money. Just help support and take care of the immediate family he has left behind. I don’t expect that they would need much or even have to ask. You have players like Fabregas who is close with the family, and could probably take care of their financial needs singlehandedly. Doesn’t mean the clubs he played for, (and who all seem to appreciate his contributions) cannot offer to help in some way. Wasn’t it someone on here who said he was going to be part of our coaching set up in the future? He was an Invincible. I would think it negligent if the club hasn’t indicated specific or general ways in which they would like or be willing to support his family.
In which specific ways do you think they should offer support if you don't mean financially?
