Laca scored 13 league goals this season. If he is a natural born finisher then at the very least he's not taking enough shots.

I don't think he is though. He's just a smidge too slow to strike the ball and his touch isn't clinical enough to earn him enough time. Those two facts mean that the defender almost always gets a couple tenths of a second advantage if the goal area is congested. He's still a good player but Giroud level seems about right. I doubt he's ever going to be of much use as the main man. He needs someone to take the big pressure off. He only came into his own and started to get space to play after we bought Aubameyang, and he's generally played his best football this season when both of them have been on the pitch at the same time.

I wonder if the 3412 suits PEA more than Laca as we look to play through balls for him to break onto (can't have both ST looking to play in the same area as we saw previously re Sanchez v Giroud & Rambo), whereas the 4231 looking to pull the ball back from the byline may suit Laca with his link play in the build up and then looking to exploit space in the box?

Lacazette is Firmino with better finishing to my mind. If Atletico are willing to pay us 60M or so for him, I'd take that in a jiffy and go sign Pepe up with that money the same day. The bigger issue with playing Auba as a lone striker is that our MF needs to be much better. Lacazette is on 13 goals partly because of what Klaus said and also partly because he has been doing a MF's work, dropping deep and getting on the ball. Torreira and Xhaka in MF will be a disaster and will end up with Auba being isolated and ineffective. Need a Tielemans or a Doucoure to play alongside Torreira. Or better still, play 4-3-3.

Problem with selling Laca and not Aubameyang is that he is the younger man, and will being in less money.

Also, I hate the idea of us being a selling club. If we sell one of these guys, we need to see 3 proper names like vd Beek, Doucoure, Pepe, etc come in during the rebuild. We cannot be the old Arsenal

We mentioned Thomas Tuchal's admiration of Roberto Firmino - he is also keen on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. But like Liverpool, Arsenal would rebuff any advances.

Depends on the 'Why' you are prepared to sell.

There's the Ajax (potentially TH) sell to service debt;
then there's our selling to generate cash flow / additional revenues;
then there's the LFC version of selling in order to improve/move forward as a team.

Bottom line for me is that until we have a starting XI that is fit for purpose then I am prepared to sell to achieve that end, but not to sell in order to generate frakking profits.

Then again he turns 28 in two weeks, hardly a cracking youngster, and his game is mainly based on workrate. How'd that work out for Alexis?

Whatever we do we'll probably have to replace both of them within 24 months.

it's one of things where you know their level will recede in the next 18-24 months, but they're the only thing winning us games at the moment

given our sketchy recruitment and lack of vision, who will we actually sign if we bin either of them? i don't trust anyone currently at the club to do the right thing

Yeah, it's really hard to say. No obvious candidates right now, which is why it was even more crucial that we somehow managed to grab someone of Auba's calibre.

Dybala might be on the market, and if we hadn't bungled the last couple of seasons we could have had an outside chance maybe, considering Barca and Real are looking elsewhere. The nightmare scenario would be Liverpool getting their hands on him.

Any chance Real would consider letting Asensio go? He hasn't played much this season. Could be a coup for us, even at 50M.

Asensio is the definition of a highlight reel player. Scores bangers every other month or more often if hes in form but his overall game is severely lacking

About the same as coutinho in that sense. All those glamorous long rangers seem to have bloated his value and he's flopped at barca spectacularly.

I turned on Facebook for the first time in half a year. Went to the Arsenal page. Fans are complaining that the team is celebrating Aubameyang's golden boot. When did human's become so damaged? Why can't we celebrate a fantastic achievement by one of our players irrespective of the otherwise disappointing season the team as a whole has had? I know it's not necessarily reflective of the whole, but that even minority are having such a vigorous conversation about it is so bizarre.

Football fans on Facebook and Twitter are the worst. You can say a lot about Reddit but at least when comments are sorted by most upvoted you generally miss out on the worst of them. Even amongst idiots most of the things you'd see on Facebook and Twitter would be recognized as toxic.
