I think there's no need to renew Laca yet, that can wait till next summer (but we could also sell him and still retain his value).

Auba, yes we should extend him now because we obviously aren't going to look to sell our top scorer, and next summer he'll be a year away from expiry (his contract, that is).

Auba is 30 next week, should be careful with any extension for him. He relies on his pace and he isn't going to get any quicker or better at this age.

We could make it more incentive-laden as i agree with you that he is bound to deteriorate with age.
Problem is we cannot replace his production with the peanuts we would receive from selling him now.

I actually think he isn't as dependant on his pace as I thought he'd be. It's more about his movement in the box. Of course pace plays a role there as well, but it's not like he's a through ball merchant.

His pace has already deteriorated in any case. I have seen plenty of defenders out run him on throughballs. He doesn't have the power to keep up

I don't think he was all that fast when we signed him. We never saw peak speed Auba at Arsenal.

He still looks quicker than the rest of the lot to me. He hasn't really relied on pace since he moved up front for Dortmund though.

Seen him outpaced a few times by defenders who have no right to do so.

Unless we are gonna reinvest that money in a shit hot prospect probably no point selling him. However I'd be careful about offering him a mega wage contract at this age, we saw with Ozil how that has worked out.

He might still be killing it in 3 years but when players hit 30 it isn't uncommon to have a rapid decline. Look at Suarez at Barca, seen him a fair few times this season and while he is still scoring looks nothing like the player he was 3/4 years ago and he is 32.

Spanish dan has already said we won't let players run down their deals to the last year, so either we renew both or we'll sell. Will be interesting to see if we stick to our guns on this new policy with arguably our 2 best payers

A contract runs both ways though. Players can't force themselves out and we can't force them out either. At least not literally, we can of course refuse to play them if they don't want to go etc.

33 goals is also the most anyone has scored in their first 50 games for the club. He may have joined us late but so did Wright. I reckon he has a decent chance of reaching those sorts of figures.

The signs are looking good for him to step it up even further based on his current form. Looks like he's ready go explode.

His positioning game is elite - gives me hope that he'll be able to keep this going a few years even if his pace reduces. Tbh he hardly ever uses his pace - I usually forget how quick he can be.

Also seems opposition teams are showing more respect to him, as are our players, turned to Auba a couple of times when there were smarter passes elsewhere. Becoming the main guy the team turns to in attack, although I expect that may change with Pepe and Laca coming in.

Auba is extremely intelligent with a high striker's IQ. He'll be top drawer for a few years yet.

yeah, don't really get those that that we should sell before his pace goes.. You look at his goals, the man is a poacher, rarely used his pace to burn past a defender and shoot. All about being in the right place at the right time.
