Perisic is having his worst season since he broke through, he's almost 30, and all signs point to him slowing down. This is the same mistake we made with Mkhi and you'd think we would have learned from it. It's a high risk, small reward type of transfer.

I missed the loan part because I can't read.

In terms of our season I still think there's a big risk involved though. This is not someone I want to get minutes at the expense of Iwobi, Ramsey, etc. I basically think we're interested because he's a work horse, and a defensive winger is the last thing I want right now.

The guy is class(or was, did not know he was bad this season)...but we really can't afford so many 30 year olds on huge wages. If we could get rid of Mhiki and Ozil then yeah...but I can't see that happening. Also let's look for a center back as well. As we only have 1 fit in the whole squad(and the one fit is crap).

We are just desperate to get a loan in. We don’t want to commit to spending until we know what is happening to Champions League and Mesut. That’s my sense of what transfer strategy priority is.

We need wide players with crazy pace it's no good having guys that shift and wriggle and eventually get a ball in the box when the oposition has 6-8 men back. We need wingers with speed so they can get balls in with its 1v1 or 2v2 in the box. Thats how united beat us yesterday. We dont have to play like them but we need that pace as an option.

Agree with the general sentiment here, he's be a top player but he's ageing out.

Yep hes 30 next week. It's ideal for emery because he knows managers generally only last a year or 2.

If we were challenging for the title I could see this as a shrewd January signing, someone with a bit of bottle and character who could contribute right away. As it stands we are several years from challenging for anything and have no need for him.

£35m for a 30 year old is just throwing away money. We can't afford that. We need to spend that £35m on a young player who we can recoup some money on in future. Even someone like Xhaka would probably end up with us breaking even on the transfer. No one is going to pay a cent for Peresic in a few years and we'd probably end up paying him a fat wage to ride the bench in 18 months time.
