Where I grew up in the Caribbean everyone made fun of the likes of Scholes or Kuyt for being 'ghostly' pale, and insults thrown at them under-performing were often cruel spins on their physical appearance.
To some third world person who is used to disparage people based on their appearance there is rarely a clearly delineated line between calling Solksjaer Golum, saying that Rooney is Shrek, that Andy Carrol is a horse, making fun of 'Quasimodo' Ribery, and saying that Iwobi is a gorilla-faced neanderthal (note also, that neanderthals were Europeans with light skin).
I also have met many racist indians (the most extreme racists I have met have been indian, for sure), but I think arsedoc might be right.
