He seemed to finally come good for a while in his final season, but it turned out he was content to go to City and become the new Shaun Wright-Phillips instead. Nothing player.
Denis Suarez
Turned out to be genius on hindsight to gift them Nasri and Sagna. The latter was an outstanding servant for us most of the time but when we got rid of him he was so past it he struggled to find a club after City let him go as well
Suarez’s technical ability is light years of anyone not named Mesut in our squad

He played out of his skin to get that big offer from city. And then just went back to work to rule. I'm glad we didn't give him a stupid offer to stay because he'd have done the same here. He's just not hungry for it.

Would really help with link-up play. The key is to be able to fit in two scorers. He can beat multiple guys easily - always has a good sense of where other players are and how to wiggle out of crowds. I like his ball carrying ability. If we play a V, I like him and Torreira ahead of Xhaka, and would still keep Iwobi on the LWF. Then we will start to see some link-up play in the team.
Question is what to do with Ozil. Does he take the RWF role. I assume 10 is dead.
Yes its not the end of the world you cant build a team around a player who takes 2 months off every season as soon as the going gets tough. Wenger make a point of mentioning he had to become a leader after that outrageous contract . . . still as soon as we lost in Europe the going gets tough and he takes an extended break even when Keown called him out on it beforehand. He takes the piss.
He's at the age where he should be playing central and we should be using real pace out wide. Even Beckham and giggs came cental as they got older.
From the little I've seen of him, read and looked at his stats he looks like just what we need, another lightweight midget with little pace and no end product ....a guy that's not a number 10 or a winger. Sounds like a Wenger guy.
He has good technical ability, he can beat a man(not amazing at it but better the Mihki or Ozil) and has worked well with Emery before, also we can get him on the cheap. That's the pros I guess.
How many lightweight midgets with no pace and no end product do we have?
We're at the point we could do with a guy who can beat his man. However I don't really want a wide player of any stature in this league without great foot speed.
I trust the new management team.
He’s fast with the ball at his feet. He’s very technically competent player, which we definitely need more of on the team.
It’s hard to know though what we should be getting because i honestly don’t know what the end-game is. Wenger buying Laca and then Auba is one of the most reckless things I’ve seen. The latter really improved the team, but we are stuck with the biggest mess with those two and Ozil in terms of our resource concentration and implications on formations.

Don't have that many now, but we did. But we do have lightweight number 10's playing on the wings like Ozil and Mihki, who can't beat the man in front of them. And Wenger used to love playing that way, from Rosicky to Hleb, Nasri etc.
I'm just saying, I would rather go for a real winger. Some one like Dembele, someone fast with pace to burn that can torment his marker.

okay, but who specifically? dembele isnt going to be sold, and if he is, it will be for a fortune, given what they paid for him. so which wingers?
i want a RM and LM as well that can offer something defensively but also make good runs and provide natural width so our fullbacks can actually stay back and defend. but i dont know who those players are. suarez looks technically sound, which is something we could do with right now.
We played some of our best stuff with Hleb and Rosicky in the side together, don't get the negative implications. We're severely lacking in technical players and I think it's something we need just as much if not more than a Dembele light pace merchant.
Suarez's entire game seems to be running at people with pace and generally making the right choices at the end of it. Has a truly excellent first touch as well. Dembele looks more slight to me, physically, though Suarez is no specimen he doesn't seem to be lacking in stamina or acceleration.
The ball is in our court, probably could get this deal done for 15m since Barca are obligated to pay Manchester City another €800,000 if Denis Suarez had made an appearance. He pretty much won't play again
Sport claims the deal is ours to do for €20M (either loan now, guaranteed in the summer) and Suarez has also agreed, but we don't want to buy, so trying to negotiate an option to buy rather than a guaranteed purchase.
Doesn't really seem like we want this guy that much.
I guess we are looking for a stop-gap until we guarantee ourselves that Champions League money.
A true baller would just find a really good AM, plonk the money and deal with consequences down the line. No half measures. We need to build a great longterm team. So pay over for the Unders of the world.

i read something in one of the rags that emery wanted banega, the braintrust doesnt want him because hes old, so suarez is an alternative, but we dont want to spend any money in january and want to push it to the summer.
so, we should structure it as something like a £1.5m loan fee now, then either we pay £15m in the summer or something like another £1.5m if we decline to buy him. so basically we'd get him for 5 months to evaluate him, if we dont want him long term, it cost us £3m, if we do want him, we buy him for £15m in the summer, and our total outlay was £16.5m. that seems fair to both sides, imo
