Read the same. Bravo to the club for killing the Banega deal. We need to kill the old strategy of piling up 30 year olds with no resale value.
I would either deprioritise this guy and go for a higher ceiling guy like Under or push for a short-term loan if Barca can be convinced. I want to see the title-chasing squad shaping up with winners everywhere.

thats a bit rigid. i think our squad needs a big overhaul, and once we have a strong foundation built with young building blocks, then we can sprinkle in a few players in the 27-29 range as needed.

Personally think the lineup could use more goal threat. You mentioned seeing a bit of Suarez at Villarreal. The one who stuck out for me in attack was Vietto, and it turns out he's stuck on Fulhams bench now? Strange, but will keep an eye out for him now.

carrasco can play LM, suarez would have to play RM. does he have the stamina/work rate for that?

I like this kid and think he would do well here. Haven't watched him much but have seen him turn out for the Spanish U21's and he always looked the best player on the pitch.

so, we should structure it as something like a £1.5m loan fee now, then either we pay £15m in the summer or something like another £1.5m if we decline to buy him. so basically we'd get him for 5 months to evaluate him, if we dont want him long term, it cost us £3m, if we do want him, we buy him for £15m in the summer, and our total outlay was £16.5m. that seems fair to both sides, imo

Well that sounds ideal. I'd take almost any rumoured player of the right age with a deal like that.

yesterday all the rags said the deal was basically agreed and he wanted to join us after he talked to emery. so we are still playing hardball on the fee/structure of the deal? we have some important games in the next few weeks, would be nice to get him in and start the acclimatization process

Money theory sounds reasonable to me. The club has probably realised that Emery is not going to bring any Champions League next year. Spend £20 million on Suarez now and a fair chunk of the summer transfer budget is gone. That's why we've been puhsing for a loan.

We are 3 points out of the Champions League places. If Champions League is a specific short-term target for the team, then that's a pretty defeatist attitude

We're always a couple points off. It's an apt description of this club. I think the simple reality is that we haven't been given the push that was expected, and now a third year in Europa League is staring us in the face. New sponsor deal should help us to sustain the wage bill (which is the single most important thing in my opinion; if that shrinks then so does the ability to reestablish the club at the top) but the transfer budget is probably going to be meager without selling first.
