yeah i get that, but it limits emery's ability to tactically shuffle things around. if auba/laca both start and cant get anything going, how do you change it up? id like to see both of them start as well, but it really does limit how emery can impact a game in the 2nd half.

also, having laca run at tired defenders when he is fresh is a big plus.

of course the answer is to buy another attacker who you can bring on in the 2nd half to run at a tired defense.

IMO it's a massive positive that we took the lead 2x at OT and didn't go behind at any point in the game. That we're feeling let down by the idea of 2 points lost is another positive as it's something we haven't been able to say for some time. 4 points in 4 days v 2 of the teams that finished above us last season is good going at any time.

Why weaken the starting lineup so that you can make it stronger later? If it’s strong in the first place you’re less likely to need to bring something on.

Emery is not leaving Laca out to keep him in reserve, it’s tactical.

I think you generally have to change the tactical approach rather than the player when that happens though. There's a small advantage in having fresh legs, true, but I don't think it outweighs the disadvantage of weakening the starting eleven.

sure, i agree.

part of me is hoping that iwobi is getting so much run now because emery is trying to figure out if hes good enough, because he already knows what he has in lacazette and auba.

auba clearly does not want to play on the wing, and lacazette doesnt want to either. so, how do you play with 2 strikers? we'd essentially need to play a 4-4-2 or play something like a 3-4-1-2.

i dont know what the answer is.

I just think it's a shame that for all our experimenting we don't try Laca on the wing; I'm certain it would suit him better than Aubameyang.

I do, and I think it has turned into a self-fulfilling prophecy at this point. Emery doesn't give him playing time so of course he's not match fit, which means we won't pick him when the opportunity comes along, which means he won't be match fit, which means he won't be picked, which means...

He was the man of the match in this fixture last season. His all-round game seems better and more mature to me than Guendouzi's who, bless him, brings a lot of energy and enthusiasm but is still a year or two away from starting a game of this magnitude. Ideally. He's still at a stage where his teammates need to point to where he should stand on the pitch.

I still think the reason we dropped two points was because of our ugly as shit kit. Just can't win while playing in something this disgusting-looking.

The match reminded me of Palace in the sense that we were undone against a weaker side by a lack of composure and smarts. Their second goal was a fucking joke. Just ridiculous.

It's something Emery needs to have us working on. We have too many error prone players who aren't good at shutting down risks, but they can be taught. Football is determined by goals, and we're a bit fuzzy about scoring ourselves, while we readily hand gratuitous chances and penalties to our opponents.

Can certainly take some heart from results, and from the fact that we've continued our unbeaten run through a tricky patch in our schedule.

Real shame Mkhi and Auba couldn't convert the chances they were presented at 2-2. No point crying over spilt milk now and we have to look forward with a good run of games to come. Need to pick up maximum points before we visit Anfield.

This weekend could be good for us, Liverpool and Spurs both have tricky away ties at Bournemouth and Leicester respectively. City and Chelsea play each other. It could very well end with all four dropping points. We absolutely need to capitalise on that with a thumping win against Huddersfield.
