Napoli take the lead too! That group could be tasty.

Also that fucking Rakitic goal, I genuinely dreamt scoring that type of absurd goal as a child. The build up including that Messi clip, Suarez lay off and Coutinho acrobatically turning a mishit into that pass back

And then that outrageous fucking volley! Puskas contender, doubt there'll be another one coming close this season.

Doubt it will be even nominated for the Puskas.

It's a nice hit, but not particularly unique...certainly made the most of the opportunity but that's all.

Right. 😆

Want to put a bet on it?

I'm laughing not at that part of your post

MistaT played down the Eder goal too. Which ones do you like chief?

Every van Dijk goal that's for sure

By the way he was complete dogshit today. Bullied in the air by Milik and twisted on the ground by Insigne and Mertens. If it wasn't for Alisson and dumb luck Liverpool could've conceded four or five tonight, they've been outclassed by Napoli

The Rakitic goal for those who haven't seen it

It would've been an outrageous goal already had Coutinho smashed it in but him doing a blind Capoeira back pass and then Rakitic putting his foot through the ball like that while it's like a yard off the ground hitting the inside of the post.. "nice hit but that's all" 😆

You know it's a special fucking goal when it's a foreign team against Tottenham and the English commentators are going crazy over it

The most impressive thing is how the ball is well above his waist when he puts the boot through it. You don't get a lot of players who'd attempt that.

So I see Arsene Wenger's Gabriel Paulista and Francis Coquelin are putting in Champions League masterclasses at the Theater of Dreams while Sven Mislintat's Pierre Emerick Aubameyang and Lucas Torreira are preparing for their Europa League trip to Azerbaijan. Truly, there are levels to this shit.

Why isn’t this guy banned already?

When will Barcelona put Suarez out of his misery btw. He's a nothing player.

One of the best strikers in world football over the last ten years.....

How does Messi make everything he does look so unbelievably sexy? That pass looks like it just givers over the ground.

Not only is he the greatest forward of all time (joint with R9), he's the greatest DLP of all time too.

Data Leakage Protection?

Yeah that's some Ibrahimovic type of cheek to try that

It also made thousands of Spurs fans go from wahey to fucking shtum in like three seconds

Messi was so good, another level compared to anyone else on the pitch. And to think this year he might not even make Top 3 in the World player of the year award. Arthur looked very impressive in the middle, another midget in midfield to run things!

Just watched the highlights to the Liverpool game, looks like Napoli dominated them. Ancelotti got his tactics spot on, don't think Liverpool even had a shot on target. Should bring them back down to earth.

Wonder what's up with Fabinho, has he even played a minute for Liverpool this season?

Ter Stegen has probably got the best distribution of any GK in the game but a dodgy shot stopper imo. He just doesn't get tested much because Barcelona always dominate possession.

Actually think he's a great shot stopper, pulls off some magnificent saves. It's much harder to look good for Barcelona than it is if you're playing for relegation clubs, like Butland was and De Gea is.

Regarding Rakitic’s goal....

First, Puskas wise my understanding is that they look at/nominate the top ten goals of the year. Not a chance that comes close, shit by end of October I doubt it will be one of the best five goals scored this month.

As for the goal, I don’t think much of the build up - which jones seems to have enjoyed/credited - as it didn’t come off. So I’m not giving the goal and special credit because Coutinho fluffed a volley and then blindly passed to the top of the eighteen.

Rakitic certainly hit it sweet, but he had the luxury of running onto it straight on for 10-15 yards. Just don’t think it’s that special of a goal.

Lloris looked tiny in goal. He’s a terrible keeper

😆

Well played.

that's a hell of a hit. very difficult technique

Yeah Ter Stegen reflexes and shot stopping is top notch but overall I wouldn't say he is top 5 keeper in the world yet.

Messi is just incredible. Honestly as a footballer even Ronaldo dont come close at all. Messi vision and passing is the best as well, better than any DLPs ever

Even after losing physicality, in my eyes, he has still been the best player for the last 5 years even though FIFA's judging coaches have come up with cronaldo for the last 2 or 3. This year they've come up with 5 better players (?).
Their criteria doesn't make sense like justifying his exclusion by saying he didn't win the Champions League then voting a semi-final volley over an equivalent final volley not to mention the Salah "run of the mill" goal winning the last one.

Those awards are taking him for granted to be fair. They think people will find it boring if we give Messi for 15 years consecutive.

Puskas award is a popularity vote so can't completely pin that on the judging.

I think BT's Puskas award analogy is comparing Ronaldo and Bale's goal where Bale one is clearly better but not even nominated

They normally nominate a fewf goals scored by obscure teams, this year seemed very mainstream and also looked like they spent about 5 mins trying to remember 5 decent goals off the top of their heads.

I think Messi suffers when it comes to individual accolades the same way LeBron James does in the NBA. They are both clearly the best in the business, and have been for a decade or so.

I'm curious about how those who wanted Jardim at Arsenal now feel given that he's only won 1 game in 8 in Ligue 1 and currently bottom of their CL group. Obviously they've lost a hell of a lot of good players as well but I don't watch Ligue 1 to know where the responsibility lies.

Haven't seen any Ligue 1 this season, but I think your last sentence sums it up. These boom-bust-cycles are to be expected when the club sells 3 to 4 of your best players every season and only replace them with youngsters or modest signings. It happened to Klopp at Dortmund too. It's happening to Di Francesco at Roma this season too, although they seem to have found a winning streak lately.

He started poorly last year as well if I recall correctly, team needed some time to gel which isn't surprising looking at the number of ins and outs. Still finished 2nd in the end

Either way he's a terrific manager, his achievements at Braga, in Greece and that 95 point season with Monaco with a CL semi final weigh a lot more than a poor start or two.

19 days later

if Juve doesnt beat this team, ugh..

Dybalalalalala

United haven’t been bad but they look like they’re just waiting to lose.

I can’t make my mind up on Martial, looks so good on the ball but hasn’t had a touch in the first 22 mins.

The goal:

This should bring José down a notch again. For being such a defensive side Manchester United are really, really terrible at defending. Look at Smalling getting beaten to a low cross all the way out from the corner flag. Look at Matic just letting Dybala go. He has one job and can't be bothered to do it. Xhaka levels of lethargy.

For such an intelligent player, Scholes really is the least insightful pundit around. And considering his competition that's saying something

He makes up for it with his charisma and energy though.

United would be so much worse off today without De Gea. Sometimes I think he has singlehandedly kept them from slipping into the lower half of the table in recent years.

35% possession at home. 😆

Against Juve too, not like they're a side who pride themselves on possession

I find some pleasure in finding out the whole class of United 92 dickheads ended up as the same scum that I regarded them as as a 12 year old back when Wenger was still winning league titles against them.
