If England beat the likes of Argentina, Spain, Brazil, Germany, France, Italy on their way then I would say they fully deserve to win, but beating the likes of Tunisia, Panama, Columbia, Sweden and then singing like “its coming home” is annoying.

The team is good but lacks world class individuals.

You can only beat the team in front of you. Most in my circle are loathe to say anything positive at all about this side, and think the press is total cringe with the "it's coming home" stuff.

Yeah exactly. Of course the English can support their team, that's obviously fine. Why any foreign fan would want to support a team so Spursy is just weird though. Especially as the only Arsenal involvement is Welbeck who can't get a run out. It's not like England have been entertaining either. There's just not a lot there to like about them.

Different generation, different team and different fans.
I suppose the "us good, them bad" is fairly deep rooted in some Irish fans who glorify themselves more than the Irish team when they go on their European / WC travels.
Maintaining that in the face of evidence that the majority of fans who support England these days are no different from themselves must be tough

I mean, there are quite few players from teams that I don't like playing at the World Cup and not all of them are in the England squad. The World Cup is an international tournament, so club loyalties don't factor into this. From my perspective, people should make a distinction between the two.

That doesn't mean that I'm not a proper Arsenal fan; I'd rather see us winning the CL then see England win the World Cup because I'm more emotionally invested in my club. But if England are at a tournament, I'll obviously support them, regardless of the club's the players play for, the style of the football etc.

I don't think anyone is really questioning that. But I feel (rightly or wrongly) that the level of vitriol directed at England on here is disproportionate to any other side. That's the bit I don't understand.

And there's a really bitter edge to it too.

As an aussie, wanting to see the poms flop in football, cricket, rugby and generally anything they attempt has always been a thing in this country. I'm moreso wanting then to fail because of the level of spursiness in their team.

That said, england could easily win this thing now. I don't see any teams left that are lightyears ahead of them

I get the hostility from Aussies towards England but to be honest, it always feels like good natured rivalry to me. Not the torrent of hate that I've seen from other corners.

Thanks Y Va. I totally agree.

I understand the political reasons as to why you'd dislike England if you're Irish but at the same time, it's not necessarily reflective of where England is now as a country, it certainly doesn't represent all English people and definitely doesn't have anything to do with the English football team.

On the hooliganism point, no one is saying that that behaviour is not shameful but the FA have worked hard to prevent that since Euro 2000 and we've moved on since then. Hardly the only nation to have suffered problems with hooligans either.

By the way Harry Kane isn’t that bad. He’s a highly driven bloke. Dele Alli though is a different kettle of fish

Whatever happens in this World Cup now england can be extremely proud of what’s we’ve achieved. Nothing but upside for me moving forward.

Really don’t understand English people wanting England to lose. Bit warped that, as an Englishman we should count our blessings for whats provided and available to us.

Absolutely mate. Chuffed to bits that we're in the semi final. Southgate and the lads have done us proud; if they go one better and win it they'd be legends.

Just because its not as bad as the usual hooliganism doesn't make it not an embarrassment to football fans. Its scumbaggery and should be treated as such. If Arsenal fans were doing that after we won a game we'd all be embarrassed by them. If another English clubs fans did that we'd criticise them.
