Their front three cost 120m which is more than we paid for our two, most of theirs spent when "football inflation" wasn't as ridiculously high as it is today too. Also how do you compare three players to two players, seems to me like a poor excuse to slate our players while wanking theirs off.
They hit the jackpot with Salah but really their scouting and spending isn't anything special. They've spent close to 50m on Benteke just three seasons ago and last year burned 40m a year ago on a crippled scrum half. Only reason their money wasting isn't as obvious is because they don't hesitate to cut their losses at half or a third on the pound.
Firminho - £29m, Mane - £34m & Salah - £36.9m, approx £100m, all those figures are from BBC.
Well we sat on our arse and hoarded our cash while this football inflation took place, all three have been signed within the last 3 years so I think it is fair to compare. My point is we are wasting money on players who either don't fit our system or overpriced. We've spent £100m on those two strikers and not found a way to get the best out of both or either of them in the first team. £70m on Mustafi & Xhaka, £17m on Chambers, £14m on El Neny, £15m on Perez. That is over £200m we've spent in the past in the past 3 years on those players and this club has gone backwards in that time. Yes a lot of that is on the manager but I'd argue apart from the two strikers those players are bang average, the two strikers come with their own flaws.
They have wasted millions, I have pointed that out many times. Spurs were the same before that, outspent us every summer and still finished 25 points behind but they kept on going and kept on improving the squad. Keita, Salah, Robertson, Gomez, Mane and Firminho all signed within the last 3 years, all of them have improved the team. Four of them have already proven themselves, Gomez has only broken through this season and looks very impressive and I think Keita will be a massive success. The Keita deal is something which I can never see our club doing, we sit on our arse and let these players slip through our fingers. You add Van Dijk to the list of players they've signed and that works out to about £25m above how much we've spent on the players I listed in the previous paragraph.
You can call it wanking them off or whatever the hell you want, the way our club is being run is shambles while clubs we used to laugh at are a level above us now.
