  • Lucas Torreira (David Ornstein+Guardian update on page 5)

One of those 'makes too much sense' signings. I actually saw a handful of samp games last season and i liked the compactness of their play, and torreira was a big part of that. A 3 of xhaka, ramsey, and torreira would be pretty good

He would be amazing. If we can’t get him we should look to Brazil. Arthur is turning heads as a B2B MF. Yerry Mina went to Barcelona - this generation of Brazilian youngsters looks supremely gifted.

Apparently Napoli are ahead of us in the negotiations.

GdS claiming that Napoli have cooled their interest as they think the player’s wage demands are too high.

Mina is Colombian. Agree about the rest though

Torreira would be a terrific addition. Adds some octane to our midfield and the type of player to make everyone around him play better

Sorry yes re: Yerry Mina - I guess i just remembered him as part of the contingent playing in the Brazilian league.

and barca are already trying to get rid of mina.

maybe they don't think he's at their level after all or just doing barca shit.

Wilshere replacement?

Who is this outlet - ANSA? Reliable?

Calciomercato also saying that we are willing to pay the release clause and ahead of Napoli. OTOH looks like Leno’s off to Napoli - from the reviews on this forum, can’t say I mind.

Hope we sign him but he looks an injury waiting to happen in the prem.

[Arena Napoli] Arsenal are in a better position compared to Dortmund and Napoli regarding Torreira, as they have the financial power and the player likes them very much.

Also they say the ANSA outlet is reliable and only publish verified info.

Why do you say that, Speedy? Any injury history he has carried from S.America?

Just looks like he's absolutely tiny and flying into 50:50's in the prem someone will go through him.

Same height, over a stone lighter.

And a more tackle inviting style of play.

I don’t have concerns over that. He’s very aggressive and quick minded

Shapes his passes so well

Yeah, it gives him that increased speed, quick footed agility and low centre of gravity. Similar to Naby Keita.

That's a mighty impressive stat for a guy his size. Add that to his obvious quality on the ball and he looks good.

I've never seen this guy play before... based on the videos, he looks like an absolute fiend. It's endearing

Im 100% convinced, that linking him to us, is only agent talk so he could get his move to Napoli done.

This is the kind of transfer that would convince the fans that we no longer behave like complete dithering cretins.

Get it done.

Torreira will not join Napoli. He is no longer part of Ancelotti’s project and plans despite their strong interest & contacts at some point. #AFC are closer and plan to pay the €25m release clause by June 30.-sampnews24

Napoli got another player to replace Jorginho and are not in for him anymore...or at least that's the news right now.

Napoli have reached an agreement with the entourage of Stanislav Lobotka (Celta Vigo), a direct replacement for Jorginho. [Alfredo Pedulla]

The thing is, the english press have said nothing about this, and they love to report anything...even fake news. So maybe it is just his agent putting pressure on Napoli.

Oh but they are - didn't you see the obligatory article in the Mirror about how Torreira "drops huge transfer hint" by following the official Arsenal page and Mesut Ozil on Instagram 😆

I wouldn't go that far, but there is something fishy about the way it's being reported. We seem to always be a line in an article about how he's supposedly not going to Napoli.

Seriously, you must be getting tired of making jokes about our ambition in the transfer market. I certainly am tired of reading them everywhere.

Arsenal continue to.pursue Lucas Torreira. The Gunners have identified the Uruguayan player as an ideal addition to their midfield, and while Torreira has a €25 million exit clause, if would have to be paid in one installment. Arsenal are willing increase their offer to €30 million to pay it over multiple years, a solution that would work for Sampdoria.

Arsenal however have yet to reach an agreement on personal terms with the player, at the moment Torreira’s agent’s demands are considered high, so the deal to bring the midfielder to London can not be considered in the closing phase quite yet.

I've never understood the agent fee part. Are the players in question of cases like these so fond of their agent that they let them jeopardize deals and come between them and the club they want to go to?

I don't get it either. I don't really understand agents' roles in transfer negotiations anyway. They're all scum, seemingly.

If the agent wants £10m, generally 7-8m ends up back in that players pocket or his dad's pockets.

That makes more sense at least. I've never been able to wrap my head around why any player would let agents make demands for themselves that could ruin the transfer. If the agent fee in reality is more of a player fee, that would explain it.

I don’t think that’s true. The reality is players are stupidly loyal to their agents and can’t see that they’re essentially being used. Take Yaya’s agent, the guy is an utter moron and is responsible for not only making him look like an utter tit, but has torpedoed the last 2-3 years of his career. Others will manipulate to steer players in a certain direction. Of course, some agents are superb at their job and are probably worth the it, but many others are not.

The agents are smart too, they pick and choose their targets. Raiola supposedly made sure United paid all the agents fees for the Sanchez-Mikhi swap deal because he knew he’d get peanuts out of us. So while deals can get held up, ultimately the agents always end up getting paid and the player gets his move.
