Looks like we have gone for real steel and experience with the players we are linked with. More brute and mental strength than ballers.

Not fussed with this signing, since we have no money and have other more important priority positions to strengthen

Welcome aboard, Mr. L.
I hope he scares the begeezus out of Bellerin.
One year contract, free, experience, leadership.
Solid.

I like him. Generally poor in the final third, but I like him.

he was good enough to play for juve many times this past season and in their most important game of the season last month at the bernabeau so he's more than good enough to play here and light a fire under that slacker bellerin.

Havent liked him since his time at Lazio.. but welcome all the same. now you can be a hard, dirty bastard for us

Upgrade on Debuchy and Jenks so good business.

Also, changed the game at Wembley against Spurs, didn't he?

Interesting how Lichsteiner has become a stick with which to beat Bellerin.

And he hasn’t even played a single game for us

In fairness Hectors clothes and fashion sense has been used as a stick to beat him too and they haven’t played for us either.

There's nothing weird about it. Bellerin hasn't been playing well and in comes a guy who hopefully can teach him a thing or two.

Like he has been known to do to whom previously?

It’s a laughable assumption/ assertion anyway.

When Lacazette wasn’t playing well no one was saying hey when we sign Aubameyang he can come in and show him a thing or two. If we sign a new goalie or CM it wouldn’t be to show Cech or Xhaka a thing or two. It would be to either replace them or rest them. Coaches are the ones who are primarily tasked with improving players, and setting the tone. Not some random old dude from another club who has no standing in our dressing room and isn’t exactly a colossus in his position on the world stage.

I sure hope you see why that wouldn't be anywhere near the same situation.

I sure hope you see the overall point I am trying to make

Yeah, except none of your comparisons were of a player whose experience is basically the only thing he has left coming as backup to a young player who desperately needs guidance.

Yeah

Good.

Lichtsteiner a random old dude? Jeez.

If Bellerin has any sense he'll watch every move the man makes and try and see if he can end up with half as many medals when he's 34 years old.

Not our fault you don't count any achievements in the Serie A to be worth anything.

No idea where this Lichtsteiner fits into the grand plan.

Welcome anyway.

😆 Have a drink, flobs. Try to kick back and relax a little.

You can't see it in Y's picture, but Pires is wearing a training top with Wilshere's Number 10 on it--he supposedly only wears unregistered numbers...

Edit--there you go:

Underwhelming but I suppose for a 6th placed club it's how it has to be for a while

I think it’s a good signing. He’s not going to give any car crash performances and brings experience and physicality - something we seriously lack at the back

He is well regarded as expected on the Juve forums but it’s widely accepted that he has lost a step and is now a bit more error prone.

I am worried about how he will handle the pace and physicality of the premier league. Oh well, he’s here now. Let’s see how Emery puts his defense together. Experience and professionalism is never a bad quality to have in the squad.

Longer video of his best bits in 2017-18.

My main gripe is the stage of his career at which we’ve nabbed him. It’d almost be like us re-signing Sagna IMO. I realize that he was a Juventus legend and a solid player but that was like, 5 years ago. Let’s not pretend like this man isn’t over the hill now.

We shall see, I guess.

I don't think you're basing that on first hand knowledge, but rather on the fact that he is 34.

I recall having discussions with you at different points this season where we have lamented the wimpy little kids we have in the squad that just play at being footballers. This guy is as serious and professional as you'll find. Barring injury, I can't see how he can fail to make us stronger next season. I don't see what's not to like? It's not like we don't already have a right back in place that is being linked with Barcelona and Juventus--Lichtsteiner will make sure Bellerin is earning his place without question.

To be fair our experiences with signing older defenders, in the 30ish bracket has not been all good....

I have first hand knowledge of the fact that he is 34.

Reaction, mixed

Ah lads, a 34 year old fullback?

That's a West Ham signing.

How are people complaining about Lichtsteiner?
The experienced winner that we need right now.

  • 578 club appearances
  • 99 caps for Switzerland
  • Captain of Switzerland
  • 7x Serie A winner
  • 5x Coppa Italia winner
And best of all, he’s free.
