I can’t blame the club, because it is not like there is a super option available. For me Jardim was the best candidate, but for some reason he was never mentioned.

When we knew Guardiola was interested, we should have told him yes, and showed Wenger the door, but we didn’t so here we are. There simply is no outstanding candidate. Conte might be the best manger who could have taken over, but between the budget, his approach and the fact his family have stayed in Italy, he was never a viable option. Tuchel was already secured by PSG.

Emery is the best of rest, so let us see what he can do. If he doesn’t work out, there may be more the Emery going out the door, and then we can hire again. Nagelsmann, Rose,Tedesco, Silva, maybe Arteta with more assistant managerial experience etc.

Tactically it will be interesting for sure, but I do not see him leading us anywhere, I really hope I am wrong.

I didn't want Arteta because I feared the playing style he'd bring with him, which IMO only works if you have the money to buy the players needed for it. Not sure how Emery's teams play, but from what I've read, at least he's more balanced in his approach.

I am happy with this although I wish we had taken a risk. I in fact think he will be better for his experience with PSG.

I don't think Emery is a long term manager. This is not a long term replacement.

I really don't see why anyone would be disappointed in this appointment unless they base their whole opinion on a couple of PSG losses in the CL. I don't see many managers who would be a tier above bar Simeone and that one was never on the cards. Emery ticks almost every box you'd want in a manager, experienced but relatively young, works extremely well under budget constraints, great motivator but not just an angry talking head on the sidelines, will most likely come with his own coaching team and has won several international trophies one of them against everyone's darling Klopp in 2016. Only question mark I can see is how quickly he'll learn English as he doesn't seem to speak it at the moment.

People clamouring for Arteta over Emery need a reality check. I don't doubt that he's intelligent and that others think hed be a good coach but having the right tools doesnt help if you don't know how to use them, just because it sounds and feels right doesn't t make it right. He has managed not a minute of a football game in his life ffs, a couple good bits and interviews with answers while sounding nice could've been given by anyone here don't change that.

Probably true, we can't bring youngish player through if the crowd is toxic. It's to much pressure for most of them.

It's a shame if the Board can't make what they felt was the best appointment for that reason.

Manager of the year in France too, ahead of guys like Jardim. I have to say I'm surprised over the sceptical tone in the thread. These bloody people could have gone and hired someone like Laurent Blanc. We all know they could have done it. Nothing is too low for them, not even Sam Allardyce.

Instead we're getting one of the best managers in Europe who's going to work closely with some of the best recruitment people in the business. And he's a decent person on top of it. Take a bow, Gazidis.

Like Jones said, the reality of coaching at Arsenal is a lot closer to his time in Spain than it is of his time at PSG.

I'm not convinced whether he is the right man for the job but I think we need to at least pick the right stick to beat him with

He was a prominent feature in the managerial wishlist back then from memory. While I agree that PSG is a strange job, I do feel like Pep or Klopp would have done a much better job stamping their authority there regardless of success. The worrying aspect is that the language barrier seems to be one of the biggest issues from his time there, given his English is mediocre at best, you wonder how he’ll cope here.

I read that there was what was described as an abyss between Emery and Neymar / Neymar's clique and Emery's approach to resolving the issue was to allow the players sort it out themselves - a "shrinking management style".

I suppose he won't have to be overly concerned about superstar egos at Arsenal, or player power, given our track record of holding onto the manager as opposed to keeping top players.
