Very clear that there was no real vision in this appointment and we realised we needed to secure anyone lest we be left with Vieira as the only person interested. Seems fairly evident we were rejected by a few other candidates before we got to Emery.

As much as I wasn't keen on someone as unproven as Arteta, I'm still frustrated that we're left with appointing this guy when we could have secured a superior option just two years ago before we dropped out of the CL. Ivan and co were just too damn slow to react to Wenger's obvious decline.

Fingers crossed my scepticism is proven wrong. At least the board won't have anywhere to hide now.

I think he's better off with Pep for another year or two.

Emery is a good manager choice in all honesty. Most people would've been over the moon with him two years ago. Both Valencia and Sevilla played very competent football under him. Seems like an intelligent, considerate bloke too. He fits the idea of the kind of person I want in charge.

Sounds like they got the best available option. Which is all we can really ask for. I don't really care what he did at PSG in the CL. CL isn't relevant to us now.

If he comes in and tries to get players to shore up the defense and midfield, then, I'm all for him.

For some reason, I feel that a common sense guy will do better with this team, short term, than an attacking philosophy guy.

Yeah good point.

Wenger and Ferguson were both shit in the CL for years. It just takes time to get used to and try out different things and find what works for your team's. He'll have learned from it.

Cross usually knows nothing, but I would have zero respect for Gazidis and the other decision makers if they really went against what they felt was the best option because they were scared of the fans.

I like that fans have influence. This may be rubbish but I think the board have been out of touch for a while.

Honestly I'd have taken Pellegrini or Benitez over him.

Pellegrini has a track record of having worked wonders with a limited budget at Villarreal where they reached the CL semis.

When Malaga were selling players left, right and centre he was 2 minutes away from the CL semis with them too.

I usually would write this off as fabrication, but it does seem like the sight of those empty seats made the board shit themselves just a little bit

I think it's as good an appointment as we could get. The bigger name managers understandably aren't prepared to lower their ambitions, and unfortunately were not willing or capable to raise ours right now. I think we're aiming for CL football primarily, and emery can get us there

Don't really know anything about him as I follow very little football outside of Arsenal games, but appears to be an experienced manager who has had some success and won silverware so probably the best option we could attract.
