It does sound familiar, and in a way it's what we need I guess... another Wenger. The reason Wenger himself had to go was because he could no longer do his job.
I think getting back into the top four would be a huge achievement right now with this squad. We could have coped with a year outside Champions League. Two is going to really strain the resources, and three would force us to scale back everything.
There's a sense that we're a bit fucked in the short-to-medium term no matter who we appoint, but we shall see. I feel confident that someone like Emery will find whatever upside there is to this horror show of a team. Aubameyang arriving in January was a blessing, even if it came half a season too late. We can forget about signing any more players like him over the next few years.
