And Mesut needs to do it now if he plays. We need real ownership in offense. I applaud Iwobi’s enthusiasm, but it’s not enoug. We need precision and foresight that he doesn’t have.

100%. Everytime Xhaka is moved or out we suffer. He makes more mistakes than he should be he's the beating heart of this team and when he's out it throws off our whole rhythm.

I’m about to turn on City. These guys will have Silvas interchanging with Sterling and Sane (or similar). It’s that kind of additional quality I want. One more guy like that.

I’m sure this Ozil situation is extremely painful for Emery as well. He, just like us, knows that this is one of the best players in the league and he would likely love to be able to exploit him.

@ Claud: let’s not forget the German national team is full of quality midfielders the likes of which you desire. Yet they couldn’t make it work at the last World Cup. Adding players won’t help us get the best out of Ozil. We said having runners would liberate him finally. We got one of the best runners there is. Today he’s brilliant. Tomorrow he is a wet snotty handkerchief. I’m convinced he’s just a moody motherfucka and no one can help him. The cat is just too mercurial for me.

The whole German team was in a malaise. It wasn’t an Ozil issue. Statistically, he was the best attacking mid at the World Cup for Germany. He was really unfairly scapegoated over the summer. He did his share of the work on overall bad team.

As I said, I don’t think he’s covered himself in glory since 2016, but I think a consistent theme of our team in recent years has been poor approach play, and a large part of that is not having the right players on board. I would still eventually like two quality AM types after he leaves, so might as well have him with one of them as a bridge for now

😆 Because they were so brilliant without him. He really held them back from being great.

Two points about the World Cup, illustrated with simple, hard facts:

1) He created more chances per 90 minutes than any player in the World Cup this summer:

2) No player made more key passes in a single match than he did against South Korea:

This is not the narrative you tend to hear, but he was one of their best players this summer. I think he was dead right crying foul after being singled out for criticism while his white teammates got away with bloody murder. Those 'desirable germans' were playing like sacks of shit, but they don't have bulging eyes and an indifferent body language.

Much better today, though he was (to my eyes) still too limited in influence. Would be curious how many touches he had vs Laca and Auba?

Thanks for the stats, Klaus. I’m happy to criticize Ozil when he suck, but I really hate how people mischaracterised him over the summer. If you watched the games you could see he was one of the better players on a shit team and just carrying the blame because of politics.
