I wouldn't mind Allegri, but for me he's not the best candidate, and certainly not by far. The reasons that I like guys like Sarri, Simeone, Jardim and even Tuchel is that they've proven that they can challenge with a squad that isn't the best in the country.
That's spot on Quincy. He's perceived as a safe manager in Italy, tactically interesting and intelligent, but he's not gonna transform a club. You get exactly what you put in with him.
Berlusconi wanted him gone for this reason, but then Allegri lucked out when Milan signed Zlatan who basically won them the title on his own, surrounded by what was otherwise the 5th or 6th best squad in the country. It's worth keeping in mind too that no one wanted him to succeed Conte at Juventus at the time, and while he's done fairly well for them they're still living off the fumes of Conte's team. Next season they won't have Buffon, they won't have Chiellini, and in a year or two they won't have Barzagli either. This is similar to what happened at Milan where all the former greats retired (except Pirlo, who was forced out by Allegri who thought that Antonio Nocerino was a more worthwhile player) and they ended up replacing them with worse and worse alternatives. It wasn't just Allegri's fault, but it's not like his football made them more than the sum of their parts either.
