He was trying to make out he had inside knowledge about Vieira coming a few weeks back too.

I don't see it like that. There is clearly a serious attempt at making the club stronger and more competitive.
Gazidis has already appointed two very impressive men to important positions, whilst clearing the decks in order of making more apppontments, and the head coach is the single most important appointment that they will make.
I genuinely think Arteta has left a strong impression on Gazidis and that is what's driving this. If they just wanted to appease the fans they could have fired a couple of people, and a paid Wenger's wage to a coach that the fans would have approved of.
It looks to me that the ambition has been set higher than short-term quick fixes, and I'd put that entirely down to Gazidis becoming the guy that is now driving the club.
That's all well and good but i think a few first choice targets may have also fallen through, so i wouldn't be too quick to drink the 'arteta as masterplan' coolade
I'm not against his appointment, I've said many times my gut always told me arteta had managerial potential. If it happens, I'm just hoping we're doing it for the right reasons
I said I believe it is Gazidis' idea to appoint Arteta and has been his intention since the decision was made to fire Wenger, and is part of an ambitious overhaul of the club and its stuctures.
I didn't, however, say I thought appointing Arteta was a good idea. I'm very concerned Gazidis has picked the wrong guy to hang his hat on.
