We are not shapers of our own destiny, Klaus. So much of our marquee player strategy is really shaped by fallout at bigger clubs. Both Ozil and Sanchez were opportunistic buys after they were deemed dispensable. Mkhitaryan while a relatively big name, is a castoff made dispensable by the Sanchez acquisition and so forth. Lacazette, if you count him as a big name, is an exception.Â
It would be good to see us have a much more self-directed plan for our bigger signings. Where we identify some big names and go after without having to wait for their present clubs to deem them superfluousÂ
