I guess red cards is a natural place to draw the line. If they checked yellows you could also ask "why not freekicks?". However I personally think they should be able to check yellow card when the player is already on one.

The implementation of VAR is a spectacular disaster but honestly no one can say they expected better when it's still Moss, Dean, Taylor or Atkinson in charge of making the calls. Get rid of the whole PGMO, replace them with lower or even non League refs if need be. Theres a situation where I'd gladly take the teething problems for them to get up to speed, beats the fuck out of having to watch Moss carrying his wheezing carcass across the pitch to make another outrageously bad call.

Is it official that VAR cant check yellow cards even in other leagues? Even Watford illegal goal VAR didnt overturn it which is weird.

It seems like VAR dont interfere with much of the crucial decision which we want them to but keep judging offsides for calls it's even too marginal to judge with the technology. The tackle was so clean I didnt need the replay to know it wasnt a yellow, but Sokratis handball was clear penalty IMO

No, not at all. He was clearly going to send off Maitland-Niles yesterday and just waited for VAR to do its thing. He put down the straight red and took out the yellow instead after being told his gut instinct was wrong, and then he stood there and held it in his hand for five minutes while Ainsley received treatment. Looked like he really relished every moment too. Some referee.

I cannot fucking stand how untouchable the referees are. Fuck you, supporters, managers and players - you can have all the shit calls against you and you'd better not utter even a semi-criticism of the referee's performance.

I haven't seen a single repaly yet where it looks even remotely like a foul, let alone a yellow card.

In real time it absolutely looks like a foul. The only option the referee would have given himself would be to decide to go for a direct red, thus bringing VAR into play. He looked out of control.

There are none, because there are no rules that fodbid you sticking your own leg in front of someone's foot.

I have to say I'm surprised over the amount of stick he's getting. It never looked like a foul to me in real time and even less so on the rerun. Maitland-Niles was the only person who was at risk in that challenge, and rather than tearing into him for it people should appreciate that he risks his limbs that way to stop an attack. Imagine putting your body on the line for the team only to have everyone questioning your commitment.

It's a daft challenge to make when you're on a yellow to be honest, especially in that area of the pitch, you're not remotely in control. It was also a bad decision from the ref. I don't think those two points contradict each other.

It's only a daft challenge if AMN has to assume that the ref is fucking shit at his job. In that case yes blame AMN for that but on the other hand that's excusing the pathetic display from Moss. Not sure if there's anything you can do, refs in England are treated like they're royalty.

I think he was 100% in control and it was a brilliant interception.

Disagree, I don't think any player can be in total control in those circumstances, the margins are just too tight. If I were a coach, I wouldn't castigate him, but I'd be telling him to stay on his feet next time and not risk it. And yeah, shit refs should absolutely should be factored in.

I don’t see that as validation in the least. Ljungberg is on our staff after all.

Didn’t think it was a second yellow, perhaps a stern talking to if the ref felt it was a forceful challenge.

Nah I didn't think it was a foul in the initial viewing and actually got a bit pumped because it looked a great tackle to me. Having seen the replay I was convinced there was no way it was a foul. Kept hoping the VAR check would show there was nothing in it but the red already made up hi a mind to send him off which was diabolical. Watched multiple replays from different Angela and still don't see how it could possibly have been called a foul. Like genuinely mind boggling.

The problem is that some people are calling it a tackle when it isn't. He was first to the ball, he kicked it away and then the other fella trod on him. His leg is high because he actually kicked the ball.

A different view may be that he made a tackle and left his foot high. For me, that is the absolute incorrect view but thems the breaks.
