I reckon this is United's best chance by far to get Sanchez - and probably a world class player in general for that matter - so if a straight swap is really what they're offering I'd tell them it's £50m straight or Martial/Rashford or try your luck in the summer with him.

This is supposedly the issue:

The Premier League has new cost control measures, coming into force this summer, which are shaping Arsenal’s thinking. The rules say that a club’s wage bill should not be more than £7m more than it was in 2016-17, or £19m more than from the 2012-13 season. If it does increase beyond that limit, the money can only come from external sources such as player sales, ticketing or commercial money, rather than Premier League central funds.

You would have thought some creative accounting would do the trick but the loss of CL funds and the fact that our commercial income is a little behind the others is probably a hindrance.

There is lot of chatter that we have just agreed terms with Mkhitaryan - 130,000 per week plus bonuses. Allegedly, that will make him our highest paid player for now. That should clear the way for Sanchez

That figure is most likely completely nonsense though. I guess if you factor in the considerable signing on bonus he's likely to receive then it probably will turn out to be quite high, but no way will it exceed 400k before tax.

If United are really paying him anything like 500k a week then they've messed everything up even further. Wages are already crazy and unsustainable as it is.

I think Matt Law of the Telegraph is reporting GBP 14M post tax, which would put it at 500k per week pre-tax (assuming a 45% tax rate)

Sorry, read it the other way round. 500k is before Tax actually. Still a terribly high figure. This is what he has been demanding and Bayern pulled out of the deal in pre-season because they don't think it's sustainable and would ruined the dressing room.

Alexis is a world class player on his day, but I'm really hoping he's past it. United fans are celebrating as if they won the title lmao
