We have to start getting players a bit early again. If he has that unreal season we'd like him to have had before we sign him he'll be out of our reach. 14 goals 14 assists from the left in a season is pretty good for a 21 year old and he looks like an intelligent footballer and has pace. Everything about the rumours surrounding this transfer sounds so incompetent. If we wanted Lemar we should have secured him early, but was he even that good to begin with relative to what was on the market? I think Liverpool got a much better player in Salah this summer, and for a much smaller fee too.

Everyone talked about how much work we needed to do this summer, but so far we've only ended up with a fullback on the free and a striker no one really wanted. This is not good business. It's not a good way to do business. And I don't think you can blame it all on Wenger, because he's not the one doing the actual negotiations at this club. We've seen this exact pattern so many times now. We pursue targets for months only to fail to secure them in the end, and then we're left with nothing when the season starts.

Salah is a lovely player and the type of player that would shine under wenger, or klopp.

I thought it was very surprising that no one else went for him. He's fast, highly skilled and just scored 20 goals and assisted another dozen. He had similar numbers the season before that too. Perfect counter-attacking player for Klopp.

If Pool get him and van Dijk they've had a much better window than us, at least on paper, and this is after a season where we finished behind them. That's just not acceptable to me.

I don't usually cite twitter accounts but I've always found him to be super reliable when it comes to Arsenal. He doesn't post much about transfers, more usually boardroom related. But each to their own....

Non English clubs will always try to bleed English clubs for maximum cash. Combine that with our cautious approach to bidding, and you get what appears to be stalemate until someone blinks.

I really want him. He's not flash at all, but i think he will add a smoothness between the midfield and front 3 that is lacking, and improve the efficiency of our counter attacks. 3 technicians in the team at a minimum

Not if they lose Coutinho.

But either way, there's a month left - can't make such definitive statements at this point.

Salah strikes me as the kind Wenger don't really want. He's top quality, but he is primarily a counter attacking player who is very good in the final 3rd.

Wenger always prefers his technical possession players.

Perez probably fits that description more than most and Wenger favoured Welbeck and Walcott; it's a crime to put technical and possession together in the same sentence as them.

In fact we hardly have any possession players. Santi and Mesut are probably the only ones who truly fit that bracket.

I wouldn't even class Mesut as a possession player, he can do it but he's happier trying to deliver a meaningful ball.

Don't agree with that, their main weaknesses were CB, CM and CF last season and they haven't addressed a single one of those or if you go by transfer rumours are close to sorting those positions out. Then factor in the extra games and all their injuries from players burning out I don't think Liverpool look in that good shape at all going into this season. I'd wager we won't implode like we did last season either and that is the only reason they finished ahead of us, even then they were shitting themselves going into the final few games.

Also their record against the top sides was good but against teams which sit back they struggled consistently to break them down. Against the top sides they can play on the counter but not against the weaker ones. They haven't really improved in that regard at all.

I'd agree with that, most of our games we are up against teams who sit back so having another counter attacking player doesn't really help.
