More likely if giroud leaves we need a new striker. If we can get sell giroud for 30m and get morata for 70m ish it seems like a no brainer given girouds age. Doubt morata would come here though.

I agree. We are in the Europa League this season, we've been stagnating for years. More of missing out on targets now makes us look unambitious and compounds the problems we already have. If we keep going the way we are we wont even be able to hold onto the tier of players below Sanchez and Ozil in future.

Ornstein's article on the BBC regarding the Lemar transfer seems like a whole lot of guesswork. Not sure much of this is information he's gleaned from the club.

I guess the position is there is no definitive progress either way. We are clearly interested but no agreed deal as it stands.

My theory is that they want Mbappe to stay and perhaps sign a new deal and I'm guessing keeping guys like Lemar and Fabinho is a big part of that. Whether or not they change their tune after Mbappe commits to staying is another matter.

My gut feeling is that if a big enough offer comes in they'll sell. The question is how much of a premium do you want to pay for this kid? I've personally not seen anything to suggest that he'll ever be a £60-70m player who's worth the premium.

The club will either pay over the odds or keep Sanchez and lose on the potential £50 Mn or more fee. No chance of both happening. Going by our history little chance of either happening.

Not really true though. We spent 110m last season and have an average net spend of 70m over the last 4 years. The net profit days are long gone.

If Giroud leaves, he will play Welbeck/Walcott upfront. The squad is too big, unless two out of Theo, Welbeck, Giroud, Perez leave I can't see anyone being signed for the front 3.

I can't see why Giroud would leave if it's only Lacazette we're singing. Not only can he give the guy a good run for his money, but they can also play together in a pair upfront or with Lacazette playing off of him.

If it wasn't for the numerous clear signals Mbappé is staying at Monaco, I could believe we were still negotiating to get him. That would explain why on earth we'd sell him when he's clearly not a guy that would shy away from a fight to be the main man up front.

I think we will end up spending net at least what we spent last summer and I think we need another striker if Giroud is sold...so I think someone's coming in, I've no idea who.

Ad that's without factoring in a potential Sanchez departure for north of £60m, possibly a lot more.

We must have something up our sleeves.

Yeah, that's about it in my opinion too. Giroud knows he won't be first choice in a season which precedes the World Cup.

He hasn't really been first choice this season and is still very much first pick for Deschamps in the national side. Also, I think Giroud fancies his chances against most strikers, and with Lacazette I doubt very much he'd run away from that fight. Even if Wenger said he wasn't a sure starter.

Giroud is obviously up for the fight. The guy already had it in for Lacazette in the first minute of preseason. If Laca doesn't step up and show the same intensity, Giroud will win his place. New guy doesn't look much like he's fucking around either though. I like this rivalry and it should stay unless we sign another striker.
