IMO Lemar would play LM in the 3421 unless Sanchez is sold, and Kolasinac would start as CBL.

Do not like the 4231 unless AW buys a genuine DM type to start ahead of Rambo,
which I don't think AW has any intent in doing.

Don't mind the 433 / 4312 & would prefer this to the 4231.

Disagree that the 442 is the only other option and that we'd be required to sacrifice Ozil.
IMO we'd more likely see a 4222 wirth the same players as seen in the 4312 = Cech; Bellerin - Mustafi - Kos - Kolasinac; Xhaka - Rambo; Lemar - Ozil (with both possibly playing as wide playmakers on the flanks and moving laterally rather than providing width down the flanks); Lacazette - Sanchez (with Sanchez playing from deep).

Same source, saying they are willing to talk if a better offer comes in. It's a bit of a weird quote/translation. Basically they don't want to talk unless a better offer comes in 😆

If we're not getting Mbappe we could perhaps offer more upfront.

Meanwhile, a little earlier on we got an email here from Shaun who had this to say:

“Hey mate, I’ve just come back from a pretty big 5 hours at the Sydney fan party, will never forget. I know it’s obvious we are going for Lemar, but one of the fans close in to Gazidis asked him to ‘Hurry up and sign Lemar already!’. A bit of tongue-in-cheek I thought, didn’t expect a reply. Funny enough, verbatim, he replied ‘Believe me, we are trying extremely hard to get him through’. Again, I know our intent is obvious, but that was straight from the CEO on the transfer status. He's a good player but I'm not too fussed if it doesn't go through. IMO a central midfielder is more important.

Perhaps our interest in Lemar is not just about signing him, but also about putting pressure on Monaco to decide which player they'd rather lose?
Our record bid for Mbappe would allow them to reinvest into the team so as to be able to mount another title challenge and have a strong presence in the CL, but they'd lose their star player. By contrast our bid for Lemar is under their reported figures but would allow them to retain Mbappe.

No you can agree terms before the fee with the club I thought. Though the selling club needs to be aware that you are going to sound them out on whether you could reach an agreement with the player.

Tapping up is where you go behind their back with the player.

i would find it hard to believe that monaco would give permission for us to discuss terms with their player when they have rebuffed 2 apparent approaches for their player...

Monaco are probably the sort of club that would allow us to talk to Lemar openly in the event of us then being able to agree a fee.

Same with Mbappé. Monaco have given him permission to talk to anyone and everyone this summer. They pride themselves on being fair and proper to their players.

They've clearly allowed us to speak with Mbappe, I wouldn't doubt they've let us approach Lemar as well. We've also put official bids in, that means there is total awareness all around. We didn't go to Lemar without even tabling a bid and give him an ice cream.

Lemar news doesn't sound great. Not sure I like the idea of Mahrez as a wing back. It'd be ok going forward but he's pretty pointless defensively.

You are assuming that Lemar is being bought with the intention of playing him at wing back.

We could do with adding top quality in midfield if we aren't getting Lemar. We need to start controlling more games.
