the old man didn't know it was his son in law. all he knew was that someone is making a commotion in his backyard. it has never crossed my mind to surprise someone via their backyard anyway. what happened to ringing the doorbell and when he looks through the peephole he sees that it's you? that's a great surprise and no one is mistaken for a home invader. now if he was shot during a situation like that the old man would be a cold blooded murderer and in jail.

To me the issue is always the same. Having less guns readily available make these sorts of mistakes less likely to happen. The issue was not whether it was an honest mistake or not. if he didn't have a loaded shotgun, then the mistake would not have led to the death of a person. Like those toddlers accidentally shooting people because they come across a gun. No one blames them. You can mitigate for the impact of the risk of these mistakes if not for the likelihood they will occur

yup clearly a similar thought process to hearing noises (pretending to be a bear in florida is always a good idea) in your backyard when there shouldn't be any and defending your home from what you perceive to be an intruder.

i have a front door and a doorbell, use it. fortunately none of my family or friends play stupid games like that. just be happy you all live in places that don't have home invasions.

Bizarre. Home invasions aren't exclusive to the US, owning guns with minimal repercussions is.

I'm not sure if you're feigning ignorance but your country is the anomaly here. The majority of the population outside the United States don't need guns to be safe in their communities.

wow, so killing someone in their OWN home is the same as a man mistaking a commotion in HIS backyard for an intruder. so it doesn't matter where the mistake occurs. as long we claim it's a mistake we can do whatever we want. keep it coming.
