The obsession with the idea of privacy is part of justifying violence. It borders on a disorder, the fallacy that somewhere can be so entirely and completely "owned" by any single human person, such that any action they might take is inherently justified.

Privacy is a myth, and the manner in which it's been extended to property doubly so. It's the tool of your oppression, meaty, not the basis for liberation.

that's why i said be happy that you live somewhere you don't have to worry about things like that. be happy that you are safe from crime. my country isn't the anomaly. i know someone who has a gun in his vehicle when he goes home to nigeria. i have one when i go to my other home, jamaica and so do others in my family. i have no interest in being anyone's victim. i'll leave that to you "civilized" folks.

There's lots more crime where I'm from than anywhere in the US. People do unspeakable shit with knives and their hands even machetes, stuff that really shatters your faith in humanity. At no point however does some ridiculous bullshit like this or a toddler shooting their parents by accident occur

You just keep telling yourself this is because the others have it easier than you in the rough part of the world you live in. Rough is when people go after each other for hunger or where brothers kill brothers because of a civil war they didn't choose. This isnt that, this is civilisation degenerate, rich old white people shooting their son in laws because apparently the appropriate reaction to something startling you is shooting it without even taking a single fucking look what it is.

i never said i live in a rough part of the world. i'm crime adjacent and i want it to stay that way. but i'm not going to wait for someone to break into my home while i'm there to suddenly realize i should have taken preventative measures. it's better to have and not need than to need and not have.

so you're from this crime infested area with all these bad people and no one feels the need to defend themselves from these so called knife and machete lunatics? or maybe they are just attacking their enemies and not messing with the civilians? i have no problem with criminals killing one another, it's actually preferred. i seriously doubt people where you're from are just sitting around hoping they aren't a target today.

and toddlers shooting their parents isn't ridiculous, it's hilarious. darwin award worthy.

Just this morning a black girl again in Texas was shot in her own home because the door was ajar when in fact the screen door was shut which is an everyday sight in hot places to cool the house. They opened fire within three seconds of asking her to show her hands apparently. Imagine getting shot in your own home because you didn't respond to a dickhead shouting at you from outside.

And as if to prove your point meatwad police are distributing photographs of the gun that she owned. From the sounds of it - no mention of the location of the gun at the time of shooting - she didn't even have it on herself yet the pigs are using her ownership to claim that she was a dangerous target.

i've never posted positively about the police and will never rely on them for my protection. i don't want them on my property. stay the fuck away from me, i can protect myself. white civilians love "i was in fear for my life" when they're killing black people and white cops love "i perceived a threat" when they're killing black people. i have a white neighbor who is an nra member and their monthly magazine basically drums those phrases into their heads. they instinctively say it.

Just so wrong. So painfully wrong. Their existence preserves only our oppression, and in no way whatsoever do they preserve life. Any life.

I don't mind folks who want to fight back, but at least have the awareness to admit that it's out of fury and spite, not self preservation.

Yeah we've been down this same track on this thread a couple of times. The subjective feeling of safety associated with possessing firearms just doesn't stack up with the clear evidence that it makes you objectively less safe.

It's mostly the feeling of power that it gives off that lures people in. To be fair to meatwad in a shithole country like the US where everyone is armed and the police shoot black and brown people every damn day it's not difficult to see how one would want to think they can defend themselves.

Not gun violence but just seen a sickening clip on twitter. A policeman with his knee on a black mans neck ‘trying’ to restrain him and ends up killing him. I guess this cop will probably be investigated, slap on the wrist and reassigned. Feel a bit sick after watching that.

Republicans all rightly took the piss out of Biden for his comments but let’s see what they have to say about this.

It's disgusting Jazz G.

It's striking because it happens at the same time that Amy Cooper thinks its alright to call the police, with the knowledge that just saying she is a white woman who feels threatened by a black man should scare him off even when she is in the wrong. She was willing to exercise her privilege to potentially put a man's life in danger, at the very least give him a confrontation with the law.

It reminds me of the interview I mentioned with Prof David Williams from Harvard School of Public Health who talks about the physical toll of racial abuse. From the George Floyd and Amy Cooper examples you can see that racism is killing African Americans quickly and slowly. It also dents the position that Bernie Sanders puts forward that economic equality will solve racial injustice. That's only half the equation. The other part is re-socialising people.
