Maybe. Welbeck's four or five years younger than Giroud.

I still don't want to see him in an Arsenal shirt, his attributes, work rate, versatility, pace, have only ever stacked up for us in forum threads.

😆

repost.

Great link-up clip from 2005 vs us

He's quick enough to get in behind etc but lacks the bust of pace to beat players. Good enough for a goalscorer.

Liverpool and Utd fans seem to be worried about Arsenal signing Lacazette.

Yeah I've noticed that, opposition fans and the media seem to think this is a much better deal than many Arsenal fans.

Yep they don't know why some Arsenal fans are moaning. I don't either TBH.

Yeah, seems like this signing has raised our profile a lot in the media and in general by football fans. Plenty of people raving about him. You can't be a bad striker if you scored 20+ goals in each of your last 3 seasons.

Welbeck and Giroud still have a role to play here, especially as Welbeck is very versatile. Need to find buyer for Theo desperately though. I think Welbeck still have the potential to hit good scoring rates here considering how prolific he is for England.

I can't speak for others but for me it's down to the simple fact that whenever I've watched him play I've never been impressed. But then I've said the same about Cavani and Aubameyang in the past after limited viewing. It's funny, I remember being really happy with the Chamakh signing despite the fact that he only scored just 10 in Ligue 1 the season before signing for us and it was simply because he looked ace when I watched him in the CL.

Don't feel bad, only means that you just aren't that immense at football stuff.

Overshadowed by concerns re Sanchez,
and dazzled by the notion of signing Mbappe.

I'm betting it would be more of the same reaction if we also signed the likes of Lemar / Mahrez / Martial
because they'd all be viewed v Sanchez / Mbappe as they play in the same area of the pitch.

I'd be more concerned if we lost Sanchez, didn't sign Mbappe and then didn't spend to balance the squad & team = job left undone.

This is it in a nut-shell. Now, I challenge the folks on this forum to name more than 2 or 3 OL attackers and midfielders. That should give you an understanding of the context that he is performing in.

...context is that he's playing in the French league.

I'm ambivalent about this - I'm not swayed by dreams of Mbappe (I have doubts that he is worth it) but if Sanchez goes, then Lacazette alone will not be acceptable.

That's a weak argument and always has been. There is loads of evidence to suggest that strikers who score for weakers sides fail to replicate it at the top end when they're faced with deeper, tighter and more organised defenses, among other things. Your argument could also be turned on it's head if I asked you to name more than 5 centre backs from Ligue 1 to give you an understanding to the context that he's performing in.

OL are going to need to rebuild as much as Monaco or ourselves.
They've already lost their midfield with both Tolisso and Gonalons gone already.
We used to be linked to Fekir before he did his knee.

It's not like PL defenders are defensive juggernauts, especially since Ligue 1 has been heavily invested in, and progressed further than the English sides in the CL.

Give it a rest. The Ligue 1 top scorers list reads like a who's who of Premier League goal scoring flops.

As opposed to Kane, Vardy and Lukaku.

La Liga must be a joke with Aspas up there on the list, and Bundesliga with Modeste, or Serie a with the top scorer being Dzeko.

The PL is physical, but the notion that it has better defenders/defences than most other leagues doesn't stand. Especially now with the teams conceding goals for fun in the CL.

Ligue 1 is very physical too. Probably more similar to the EPL than any other league.

The Premier League is a much better than Ligue 1 in every respect. This is a fact that is acknowledged by everyone except for some weirdo hipsters.

No it doesn't, but the notion that it has better defenders than Ligue 1 does.

For me, Lacazette is at least as good a striker as Kane and Lukaku - he'll get as many as them next season, probably more.

The fact that I'm not jumping for joy at signing Lacazette is in line with what I think about the quality of those two, the quality of the Premier League in general and the fact that I'm still not over us having Henry, Bergkamp, Wright up front for us once upon a time. Mbappé belongs in that company, Lacazette, and indeed Kane and Lukaku, do not.

Kane scored 29 in 30 games last season, if he scores as many or more than that this will be a fantastic buy, regardless of his general quality or game. I very much doubt it though, the list of players who've reached those figures are very small. I'll be quite pleased if he scored over 20.

Tottenham also scored a shed load of goals, all of their forwards had great numbers. Not sure it'll be the same story this season or in the seasons ahead.

If Lacazette plays a full season up front for Arsenal, I'd be surpised if he didn't get 25 league goals.

How good he is against the best teams and against good defences, and what magic he can contribute aside from putting the ball in the back of the net, is where I think he falls down. But that's true of everyone not named Sanchez (Aguero is old and busted in my opinion) in this League.

even against the top teams (not counting the CL), we create enough chances.. it was just that we werent finishing enough.. if he can help with that, i'll be good with it (him).. dont love the fact that he's a shrimp, but can't have everything

Basically official

Ornstein: Alexandre Lacazette has signed a 5yr contract to become Arsenal's record signing, joining from Lyon in a deal worth €53m rising to €60m #AFC

It's been official for about 2 weeks now to be fair. 😆
