keeping Sanchez is worth it because we'll have a much better chance of getting top 4, we signal that we're not letting our rivals bully us and because we'll have an extra year to convince him to stay.

Falling out of the CL places is not the end of the world, signing medicority however would reinforce this trend

Sanchez is gone either this summer or next I think if he's hell bent on leaving we may as well just get rid of him now rather than have the saga drag on. We're not winning the prem or cl this season anyway.

The idea in here is that we can't make more Özil and Sanchez signings since we're not in Champions League though. If that's actually the case then the only sane move is to keep them and let them drag us back into CL so we can replace them with something better eventually than guys like Lacazette. I don't think there are any sporting related excuses for selling either of them this summer.

Yep. We'll have the money to replace them anyway and all the evidence points to the fact that we'll struggle to sign that calibre of player anyway. That extra 50-60m won't get us better players. May as well make the most of them this season to help us get back in the top 4.

Yeah, 50m is fucking peanuts nowadays. You can't sign any world class shits with it, you could probably get some overpriced John Stones or Virgil van Djik who will do fuck all to your title winning chances.

I think world class players even on their final year are more of an asset than 50m. The market has gone crazy. We have made the same stupid mistake with RVP, don't do it again.

We are not winning the champions league, we aren't in it.

But why can we not win the premiership? Why is that a done deal?

This is a pretty good summary of Lacazette.

http://www.skysports.com/football/news/11670/10934383/alexandre-lacazette-to-arsenal-can-he-fire-the-gunners-up-the-table

He scored 28 league goals last term and 37 in all competitions - the best return of his career to date. He leaves Lyon as their top goalscorer of the past 30 years and the fourth highest in the club's long history. It would be a mistake to dismiss that record as anything but special. For instance, Lacazette is the first player since the great Ballon d'Or winning striker Jean-Pierre Papin to score 20 goals in Ligue 1 in three consecutive seasons. Not even Ibrahimovic managed to do that.

This is no mere penalty-box poacher but a player whose development at Lyon has seen him take on a variety of roles over the years. His pace is such that he is capable of running in behind, but having been used as a wide forward and a support striker in the past, notably in tandem with the former Swansea target-man Bafetimbi Gomis, he is willing to get involved in the build-up play too.

is this like a done deal?

Cool... off I went to watch youtube and it feels like we are buying a finisher. Good variety of goals from him

Lyon President has confirmed that this is happening soon. Good signing even if not the very best.

How I view this signing will depend on a lot. I want him as an addition to Giroud, but not as his replacement. The same goes for Sanchez.

Aulas himself said yesterday that this would be done in "one or two days" and also that the fee would be "between €45-50m" in total. So £39-44m.

Lacazette is no fool, he's just not that special. I can't really bring myself to be enthusiastic about signing him, even though he's a definite improvement on what we have.

I'm just bummed about Mbappé. I should have known better than to think we had it in us to sell the club to a kid like him. Realistically, Lacazette is as good as we could attract currently, in my opinion.

😆

You get taken in easily in general.

I'll ignore the fact that you're being a condescending tit.

Something about Mbappé just seems fated from where I sit. He couldn't be more Arsenal, what we were and where I guess we want to get back to. He's what Wenger dreams of in a forward - the sort we grew up on. It all just seems perfect, except we're along way from the perch we used to sit on and are also playing on Thursday nights next season and football has changed to the point where players as good as Mbappé only go to two clubs.

Even with all that said, I still think he'll be wearing an Arsenal shirt next season. Not sure how that fits in with Lacazette, but I guess it would mean Sanchez is being sold.

I optimistic about this signing I think giroud and Sanchez will be gone in a year so we'll need two new strikers. He's not the perfect striker but if he was he wouldn't be coming here.

What do we lose from keeping him, 50m or so. We wasted that much on Perez and Mustafi last season.

And we spent less than that on Sanchez.

Its not really being in or out of the CL its that we've become a joke of a top team. After folding like a napkin in so many big games.

I just think the wheels will fall off again if the cornerstones of the team really don't want to be here. I'd rather just get replacements in and start with a team where all the players are pulling in the same direction.
