Its interesting how people celebrated how much Beckham made and don't like how much neymar makes.

I dunno, Bayern haven't done much for the Bundesliga. I feel like it will just help PSG attract better players and dominate Ligue 1 more than they already do.

Who the hell celebrated how much Beckham made? If anything he was constantly ridiculed, unfairly, for just being a commercial asset rather than a footballer.

What about oil sheikhs, tv-personalities, pop stars, etc?

Oil sheiks are hated but they're less well known.

People were up in arms with BBC personalities earning hundreds of thousands  per year.

Pop stars make hits that are downloaded and bought with tickets sold at packed venues. That's fair enough.

You are grasping.
None of these have any rare or unworldly talent.
How many people do you know that have done what Neymar has done.
Apply economics, (supply and demand), and tell us what he should be going for.
At least you haven't tried to defend the oil sheikhs/guys born with silver spoons, etc.
The recent BBC thing was not about amount but pay inequality based on sex.
As for the pop star thing, nobody bats an eyelid about $560m madonna

Out of interest why do you guys think it will transform Ligue 1?

If millions more people start watching PSG games all of a sudden, they're also watching who PSG plays against.

The way the Neymar transfer was carried out may signal the end of release clauses as we know it. FIFA would really need to look at how this was done. FFP is a goner otherwise.

And Neymar provides entertainment that people pay subscriptions to watch. He attracts viewers, which attract advertisers.

If anyone deserves the money from football its the footballers.

I agree.

I've had arguments supporting this with mates who hate footy.

I guess people resent football players because they're don't see it as work. Biggie was like that.

And the likes of Lyon and Marseilles will make a little extra money but are they going to be signing better players, retaining their best players or go up a level? I can't see it.

These things take time and rely on more conditions than just one transfer, but yes I think they might be able to boost their international profile, make more money, get better players, etc.

Some of the fallout about BBC pay was about the vast sums regardless of gender. I'm here in the UK and can hear and read it.

Some pop stars have unworldly talent. Not all but some and they can market it brilliantly. Just like Neymar albeit in a different field. If no one bats an eyelid on Madonna then fair enough. I'm not a fan but it's all based on her musical success.

I'm not against Neymar. I was trying to reason why people dislike Neymars pay packet.

The fact that La Liga tried to block it and then Ligue 1 gave legal support to PSG, says it all really.

Should C.Ronaldo be resentful? He was/is just as marketable.

I don't think there will be much change apart from PSG becoming the French bayern.
This is not good for French football as with less competition, there will be less interest.

The BBC is a public broadcaster though. Its about allocation of the license fee. Its not the same thing.

Only around the time of the move to real after that I never heard a negative comment about him.

Because a few years later Ronaldinho made more than him (until he moved to the States). This time last year Pogba was getting stick.

I don't think it's personal - people just don't like the idea that a footballer (in general) can earn this much cash.

Football is the most competitive business in the world, almost every guy in world would be a footballer if they could and make that much money. The truth is, he's a one in a billion talent. Of all the people that make that much money he probably is one of the more deserving.

Football is the most competitive business in the world?
I doubt it.

Think I'd turn that phrase around to "almost every guy in the world would be anything you asked them to be if they could make that much money"

A one in a billion talent who "deserves" to make that much money?
Again, I doubt it.

Good luck to him earning that kind of money but please don't try justify it as somehow fair or laudable.

He's obviously worth it to PSG. I think they are nuts, but hey... do I think he is worth twice what anyone else on the planet is worth? LOL.. no.. but he is worth whatever someone will pay. Cant begrudge him making money that someone is willing to give him

I could be a great accountant or banker or CEO but I've never tried to be those things so I dont know. Almost every guy in the world has kicked a football and played a games with mates. All people are aware if they have a one in a million never mind a one in a billion footballing talent. Their is billions of males in the world and he's top 3 at football something billions of guys have tried. So he is a one in a billion talent.

Of all the people who make that money most of them have done it by exploitation, corruption or they're born owning half the monopoly board. Neymar has unreal talent I said he's probably more deserving than most on the rich list.
